Children's Literature - Danielle Williams
Being a ninja is not as easy or fun as it appears to be. Ninjas aren't made, they are born into a ninja family and trained from the time they are young to become some of the most feared people in Japan. Against their fearsome reputation, when ninjas are not working for their warlord, they masquerade as the lowest level of Japanese society. Despite the difficult training and the secret life ninjas have to lead, they are still fascinating characters in world history. This fun text follows a ninja from the time he begins training at the age of five and concludes with his first successful mission. The illustrations show how ninjas move stealthily, how they fight against other ninjas and warriors, and include amusing little cartoon captions that make the text fun and informative at the same time. The text is simple to read and relates a great deal of historical information about ninjas but is also engaging and makes the reader eager to learn more about ninjas and the Japanese society in which they lived.
