Overview

Two losers in the game of love are drawn together by need--not of love but of shelter. He has lost his wife, home and job--she and her child have been abandoned. Both have experienced romance, and neither wants any more of that, thank you.

Here is their story, opening as they are about to meet, somewhere between East and West in a small community of a type you might be familiar with, perhaps even grew up in. The time is the early nineteen-nineties but the theme timeless — the eternal war between the sexes, fought with barbed weapons dipped in honey.

Meet the Author

No superheroes nor anything supernatural (thus far, at least.) Expect merely ordinary people - you and me, as it were - caught up in extraordinary circumstances. Plots are character-driven, and the characters themselves are complex and often contradictory. I aim to appeal to the reader who has an ample sense of humor and an appreciation for irony. You can expect adventure and romance, but graphic violence and sex are at a minimum - think PG or PG-13 at most - and suitable for mature youths as well as adults.

The sequel, "Not That I..." completes this story, making it into a true romance. If you like humor and the play of wit, it has plenty of merit. If you're after explicit sex. look elsewhere. It almost qualifies as "sweet" except for the sarcasm and irony. Full of wild and goofy characters, and with a couple intriguing subplots.

Interesting book, however I cannot find the sequel anywhere. If it has not been written something should be put on her web site, which I cannot get too.

While not my usual choice in reading i found this to have believable and likeable charcters in realistic situations. Good use of emotion and just enough humor to keep things fun. Try it, you'll see...

Over 700 pages. Could have used better editing. No sex, murder or bad langauge. It was slow in parts. I throughly enjoyed this book. It was not exactly a romance. It was more about a young woman who had made mistakes and survived a difficult life, finding her path to a better life. I bought the sequal and enjoyed it also. I am hoping because of the way this one ended there might be a third book. A little heads up, a lot of the action is repeated in both books. For example, there are many home repairs and talk about them and fixing lots and lots of unexpected problems. This is real life I know, but made for boring reading after awhile. In the second book I skipped over these parts. I loved the unexpected wit of Chuck, the boarder and his sense of honor. Charly was a strong, independent, intelligent woman, wanting to make her own way and not care about or depend on anyone else. Teens could read these books, but I am unsure if they would have the patience or life experiences to understand and enjoy this story. AD

I enjoyed everything about this book - well written and good character development. However, it ends abruptly and just leaves you hanging with no resolution, and I don't think the sequel has been written yet, which is a bad move by the author. Give us the ending to the story and you'll get better ratings. I'd give it four-stars if I didn't have to sit here wondering what happens to the characters.

Great Book Not like any romantic tale i've ever read before, and i have read a lot,I loved how the writer gives you a small hint of romance but never the excessive display of emotions, and i could easily relate to the heroine, and had a good laugh with the hero too,i really enjoyed reading it and highly recommend it to anyone looking for clean funny and down to earth romance.

Just when I was hoping for the romantic climax I found it was a teaser to get me to buy the sequel. The trouble is the story isn't big enough to carry for epic lengths. If there's a conclusion it should be in this book. As it is the story just stops with nothing and I was left feeling I'd wasted my time. As a teaser it failed because I wasn't left interested enough to buy another whole book. Had it finished properly I might have been tempted to buy another of her books.
