Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Susan Borges
This Cam Jansen easy-to-read mystery is perfect for beginning readers because it provides a wonderful transition from picture books to chapter books. The main character of this book, Cam Jansen, is an adventurous young girl who has a photographic memory. In this appealing story, Cam uses her amazing memory to solve the mystery of Danny's missing lunch. This charming story, part of an easy-to-read series of books about Cam Jansen, is written specifically for early elementary school-aged readers who are just beginning to read independently. The text is predictable, and the story is well-organized. Young readers will recognize many regular words and high frequency words quickly and easily. The sentences are short, and the dialogue is simple. Visual clues abound in the wonderful and colorful illustrations, and children will be able to relate to the familiar setting of a class field trip to the zoo. This book will be a treasured addition to a young reader's personal book collection. It should be a welcome addition to any elementary school library or classroom library for grades K to 3.
