Meet the Author

"Author of curiously engaging novellas. His stories are not driven by action but by mood and metaphysics. His premises often begin with fairly standard, often vaguely science-fiction concepts, but he spins those concepts out into melancholy, thoughtful tales in which he explores the emotion and (often) dislocation that people feel when confronted by something outside their normal experience." - Devon Kappa

    ?.....

I don't get it at all. It seems like it would be a really good book if it was turned into a novel.

    A good start?

"Sexy Teenage Vampires" is a collection of three very short stories. I would call them flash fiction, because of the brevity and discontinuous timeline. The only consistent characters are a girl and her stalker turned partner.

The first story is told from the pov of a guy who works the night shift at a newstand. The girl smokes clove cigarettes, that she cons from newstand guy. The reader must presume that she is a vampire because she comes back after her very public death. Eventually, the girl turns her stalker guy into a vampire somewhere at sometime that is not covered in this written work. He is evil and is obsessed with her like everyone else who notices her.

The next section is told from the pov of an unconscious victim. The victim becomes obsessed with seeing the girl in black at the train station during his daily routine to and from work. He has many hallucinations and dreams after he is attacked by her. Then, he ends up in the hospital. His future outcome is unclear.

The third section is told from the pov of the stalker/partner/"guy in black" who works with "girl in black" to feed off of the train passengers during rush hour. This duet are tag-team con artists. They choose the victim, deride others around them, and attack swiftly. Fortunately for this victim, he continues on his way feeling a little woosy from rapid blood loss. They cajole, act like teenagers, and continue on ad infinitum (presumably).

What is the point of it all? I have no idea. I can only explain that they are vignettes of one character from three different points of view (but none of her own).

It was overly complicated, but I liked the first story the most. Newstand guy had just enough detached cynicism to be a believable character. Although, I had trouble buying into everything. There was too much fantasy, and not enough realism for me to enjoy it fully.
