During the summer after his first grade year, in addition to my general reading aloud to our younger son Jeremy, I read to him some books related to either science or history, one of which was Young Teddy Roosevelt written and illustrated by Cheryl Harness. I believe that my wife Karen obtained it through the Children's Book of the Month Club. It is a lavishly illustrated book about the life of Theodore Roosevelt as a boy and young man before he became President. While I do not always agree with everything that Roosevelt stood for, I have always admired him greatly for his courage, self-determination, and "bully spirit," including how he overcame childhood illness and the other tragedies that struck him in life. Jeremy, then age seven, really enjoyed looking at the pictures while I read to him from the text. This is a wonderful overview of Roosevelt's early life for young children. I recommend it highly, especially for helping small ones learn more about important figures in American history in an interesting way.Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
