Brand New is bitter about ex-girlfriends. Just how bitter? The lyrics to just about any song on their debut will give you an inkling, especially "Seventy Times 7," where they grieve: "Have another drink and drive yourself home/I hope there's ice on all the roads/And you can think of me when you forget your seat belt and again when your head goes through the windshield

Overview

Brand New is bitter about ex-girlfriends. Just how bitter? The lyrics to just about any song on their debut will give you an inkling, especially "Seventy Times 7," where they grieve: "Have another drink and drive yourself home/I hope there's ice on all the roads/And you can think of me when you forget your seat belt and again when your head goes through the windshield." Aside from all the excessive post-breakup angst, Brand New's emotive pop-punk holds up nicely among the big list of its contemporaries. There are several upbeat anthems with three-part harmonies, though a few ballads break up the high energy. They pay respect to post-punk in "Mix Tape," where they mention the Smiths, while cribbing from the Cure's "Close to Me" in "Logan to Government Center." The repeating refrain of "This isn't high school" in "Last Chance to Lose Your Keys" at least acknowledges that they've grown up, although in the closing singalong "Soco Amaretto Lime" they declare, "I'm gonna stay 18 forever." You'll probably feel 18 listening to this.

i've got to admit, i've always been kind of anti pop-punk, but these guys are doing something right. the songs are catchy and rockin' instead of boring and whiny like a lot of the pop punk clone bands. they will stick in your head after the first time you hear them. i know hearing guys be bitter about girls gets old, but at least they have really creative (even if cheesy) bitter lyrics. ''is that what you call a getaway? tell me what you got away with, cause i've seen more spine in a jellyfish, i've seen more guts in an 11 year old kid. so have another drink and drive yourself home. i hope there's ice on all the roads. i hope you think of me when you forget your seatbelt, and again when your head goes through the windshield...''

Barnes and Noble has the worst customer service ever. I ordered this literally 3 months ago and it still hasn't shipped. Every customer service person I get tells me the same excuse that it's not in stock. Gee, thanks for telling me what I already know.

Very disappointed that B&N says they have the album, that it will ship in 1-2 weeks, but then they really don't have the album and never will.  As others here have said, your order will just get delayed after a month, then cancelled.  They are just trying to collect your information.  I now won't buy anything from them.  Wouldn't recommend you do, either.

Like on of the other people who ordered this my order was delayed and then cancelled. I figured that they may have some of these albums in stock considering they advertise it on their website. Maybe the other order was just an anomaly and I would actually receive this album? Nope. I think it's pretty crappy of BN to advertise a product that they don't really have in stock. The least that they could do is state that this album is no longer in stock, but again, nope. They should get their ducks in order (putting it nicely) and update their website accordingly. Don't order this...ever. I'm incredibly disappointed and will probably never go to BN to make any vinyl orders again in the future. Complete BS.

Editorial Reviews All Music Guide - Kenyon Hopkin: "Those lyrics from Seventy Times 7" aren't even about an ex-girlfriend. They're actually about an ex-friend who betrayed the lead singer (Jesse Lacey). Glad we have a reliable author here. Do research. Other than that, great album by a great band.

I placed the order on 12/27 and now it's 1/31 and I received an e-mail from Barnes and Noble saying that my order was cancelled. I really wanted this album and now I will not be able to get it here. Warning: If it says it takes 1-2 weeks for delivery, it usually takes up to a month. I am VERY disappointed!!

This CD is superb. Catchy guitars, awesome drums, powerful bass. Kinda reminds me of a mix between old Weezer and Taking Back Sunday, so if you like them, youll love this.

i am not a big fan of the entire pop punk genre. bands like blink 182, green day, taking back sunday... all the pop punk bands through generations are incredibly dissapointing and monotonous. not brand new. brand new has put out what is without a shadow of a doubt in my mind the best pop punk cd out there. the lyrics are awesome and the instrumentals are so catchy and infections that i dare you to not get one of these songs stuck in your head. seventy times seven is probably the stand out track, (written about the lead singer of taking back sunday after he made out with jesse's girlfriend at a party), and is one of my very favorite songs to be angry to. everyone has SOMEONE to direct this song at. SoCo amaretto lime is probably my favorite track on the cd. it's an ode to being young, drunk, and happy. it's just a happy, feel good track that is sure to put you in a good mood and either have you happy in the moment, or reminiscing about good times with good friends.

This cd is the best cd I have ever owned. I've had the album a couple of months now and I would still rather listen to them than anyone else. I love the way they rip on their ex-girlfriends. "And you can think of me when you forget your seatbelt, and again when your head goes through the windshield." AWESOME!!!

It didn't knock me off my feet or anything, 'specially since their voices and rhythm reminded me of The Ataris. However, they have something there that can be exploited if they go about it the right way. Don't ditch it automatically if you like this kind of music, though!

This CD is so awesome! It's, like, there are not words to describe how awesome this CD is! It's not one of those cd's that you can only listen to a few times ans then you get bored with it. I've had it for a year now and it's still on my fav cds.

Brand New is a band with a unique sound. Your Favortie Weapon is an album that contains songs with strong emotion. Songs like Seventy Time Seven and SoCo Amaretto Lime are good examples. When you buy this album you will repeat it over and over. You will be blown away.

i love brand new..thats all there is to say..cause they arent like others trying to rant and rave about being punk, and in the end losing the overall meaning of the music..thanks brand new for not losing it.

This c.d. has killer lyrics. They break away from the norm, and sing about stuff that can relate to anyone.

This cd is the best ive ever heard since the explosion of rock music. Brand New has still kept in touch with their feminine side which is nice.(haha) This cd helps me relax through tough times and gets me hiked up for "special occasions" and its one of those cds that everyone can just listen to once and you'll like it. Its the cd ever!!!

Because that's what its all about. If for some reason you are given the impression that Brand New is your run-of-the-mill razorblade boy band, I genuinely urge you to think again. While amongst young love ramblings Brand New does spit out particularly common fightin' words ("and you can think of me when you forget your seatbelt and again when your head goes through the windshield"), they have the wherewithall to turn around in the exact same track and suck your words of disapproval right from your lips ("'Cause I've seen more spine in jellyfish... I've seen more guts in eleven-year-old kids.") It's a solid way to get the hate out of your system without being so blunt. Brand New plays with metaphors and images so precisely, and its going to reshape the way you're feeling, be it a cheery or sullen mood you happen to be in. It's clean enough for you to slip on your shiny shoes but rough enough for you to watch yourself go a little crazy. Butchers knife, revolver, or even just a date-use tazer... Grab your weapons, kids. It's gonna be a good time.

Man...what can I say. These guys are the real deal. I had almost given up on the whole punk/emo thing, but Brand New, they get the job done with catchy lyrics and great guitar, bass and drums. Every song from Jude Law and a Semester Abroad to Seventy Times Seven to The Shower Scene, this stuff kicks big time. Finally, my hope is restored in punk/emo rock.

This band knows how to put things together. Everything they play and sing matches up perfectly. Their lyrics are original, and everything is just on. They are awesome live, and are a break from everyday overplayed pop bands. No sell outs here!
