About the Author

Jessica Gunderson grew up in the small town of Washburn, North Dakota. She has a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Dakota and an MFA in Creative Writing from Minnesota State University, Mankato. She has written more than one hundred books for young readers. Her book President Lincoln’s Killer and the America He Left Behind won a 2018 Eureka! Nonfiction Children’s Book Silver Award. She currently lives in Madison, Wisconsin.

In Your Life as a Pharaoh in Ancient Egypt, kids become Pharaoh Nebibi, living in 2401 BCE, who needs to supervise the construction of a pyramid. From there, readers wend through life in ancient Egypt, encountering tomb robbers and war. While the cartoon illustrations can make the Native Americans and Egyptians look stereotypical at times, for the most part, they’re lively and engaging. A ton of fun and the closest kids can get (so far) to a time machine.
