Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Former CFO, banker, and businessman Thorpe urges readers to act on humanitarian urges by pairing their money and time while working for a single organization about which they feel passionate. The book alternates between chapters of sound financial advice and unfocused inspirational stories that fail to illustrate Thorpe’s ostensible goal: teaching people how to free a bit of income and time to volunteer without affecting career, lifestyle, or family. Beyond the basics of budgeting and saving, Thorpe covers specific issues surrounding earning, spending, and donating money. It’s clear the author is sincere in wanting to use his extensive financial expertise to help better the world, but much of his advice—directed toward middle-class Americans—feels vaguely condescending.

Meet the Author

Devin D. Thorpe wrote Your Mark On The World while working as a professor of business in China, providing a transition from his successful corporate career to a life more focused on humanitarian service. Previously, he served as the Chief Financial Officer for a multinational corporation and as the treasurer of Nasdaq-listed multinational. His other experience included seven years of operating his own boutique investment bank and financial advisory business, and a time as the owner and manager of a mortgage company. Devin's passion for volunteering was born at age eleven while shoveling mud out of a stranger's flooded home.

This is a book that appears to be short, but it can be life-chan

This is a book that appears to be short, but it can be life-changing if used appropriately. Have you ever wanted to get involved in changing the world for the better but did not know where to begin? This is the book for you! Devin Thorpe has organized this book in such a succinct fashion that you are sure to find the information for which you seek.

The author covers everything. He gives you real information about charities that really change people's lives all over the world. He gives you addresses--including web addresses and even e-mail addresses. He brings up personal stories--and some of those stories are hard to read, but they are incredibly uplifting.

One thing I had never considered was the issue of funding charity projects. He spends several chapters throughout discussing how to get the funds, how to budget, and even tax benefits of charitable giving. It is clear that this author knows what he is talking about, and I plan to keep this book as a reference. If you want to make a difference in this world, pick up this book today!

i was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not financially compensated, and all opinions are 100 percent mine.
