Library Journal
Mantell has produced an excellent program for the person who wants exposure to the benefits of guided imagery meditation. The author does not explain anything about the techniques she is using; she obviously expects that some skeptics or novices will need some assurances concerning what they will be doing, and she offers them. For the most part, though, she assumes that the listener is willing to take the plunge and quickly moves into the meditation. Mantell effectively uses her voice, pacing, musical selection, and noninvasive terminology to help the audience achieve a state of relaxation. Further, she takes the listeners deeper into the process to show them how they can achieve a more positive and healthy life as they move out of meditation and into the world. Highly recommended for any library needing a good basic "how to" guide; public and hospital libraries may be particularly interested.--Kathleen Sullivan, Phoenix P.L. Black Friday: what a grim term for the beginning of the Holiday season! Traditionally the stress peak of the year is the prelude to what for many of us is one of the most beautiful times of the calendar. But now there is a way to negate the stress that otherwise can bruise the season. This amazing CD by Susie Mantell is not only an experience worth repeating at least daily, but it also offers a state of tranquility that would be a perfect gift for those you love. YOUR PRESENT: A HALF HOUR OF PEACE is technically labeled an 'audiobook', but place this CD on your sound system (whether personal to just your ear, or in a room to cancel out the noise of the world) and listen to the soothing voice and sounds of Mantell's little miracle package. She obviously fully understands stress management, but this is not a course, a how-to disc, or a lesson plan. This is, true to its title, YOUR PRESENT - a successful session that asks only that you listen and respond and release your stress to the sea! It sounds simple and it is simple: Mantell only requires that you give your full attention to letting go. What a great solution for this time of year - and the entire year! Grady Harp

    Skeptic turns believer -

Often skeptical, I wanted to listen before I bought into this CD for stress relief stuff. I'm now a believer. This CD, Your Present:A Half Hour of Peace, is for real. It has depth, warmth,is soothing. Like one does with children when they are out of control- this CD is a welcome time-out, for stress relief, if you have overload of mind, feel nothing will help. Go to this half hour respite for a private and mending time out. It really gives a sense of renewal and restoration, improves outlook- every time you listen. And you will go back often to the encouragement this CD provides. I think caregivers and families and persons with chronic illness could leave that behind, if for only this short time, a break from stress and troubles. Thanks to the voice that is responsible for this gift......I listen with headphones and nothing intrudes into my time out.

    Music and voice didn't match~!

I'm not sure what to make of this CD, I don't think my copy was a good one. There was an awful click, click, click in the background that near drove me nuts. I'm not sure if it was supposed to be there or if I just received a bad copy. I will admit that it did not come pre-shrunk, factory wrapped and it looked like there may have been a scratch on the disk, so my copy may have been damaged, which will give an ineffective review if such is the case.

I didn't enjoy the voice of the narrator, I found it too high and lilting, I like a smooth, relaxed voice speaking to me, meditatively. The tinkling music behind her voice didn't add ambiance but took it away from my relaxation, I would have preferred to hear one or the other but the two together was too much. When I was being drawn into her voice, slipping into my sub-conscious, I would slip out because of the tinkling of the music in the background. I found the concentration needed stressful, which, I think, is beside the point.

I did like the walk-through of the meditative process for relaxation. The visualization aspect was quite well done and I was able to imagine all that was being said. There were just the right pauses in the narration, giving the listener ample time to sink into the words. As well, the techniques described didn't require a lot of imagination, each exercise deeper into your psyche is uncomplicated and you fall naturally into the meditative state you require to be in to find benefit from the CD.

I have mixed reviews over this and shall leave it to you decide if this is beneficial for yourself and/or your loved ones. Each of us needs to find our own compensations in life, this may work for you or it may not, like with any self-help tool, you take from it what you need to and discard the rest.

Great way to fall a sleep!

I have no more problems falling asleep. This completely relaxes me. I don't even make it to the end awake. Great way to relieve stress and anxiety without medicine.
