Editorial Reviews

VOYA
This romp through the Ivy League finds the Gossip Girl cast of characters receiving their college acceptance letters and trysting away their campus visitation weekends. The ongoing fantasy world of enormous wealth and conveniently absent parents is expanded to include the ideas of Georgetown University as a "safety," and high schoolers in possession of their own Manhattan apartments. Mixed in with the gossip is the significant message that life changes after high school: One half of a romantic couple realizes that he will outgrow his girlfriend once college begins, and another young couple discovers how mundane it is to live together. Most of the characters find spots at colleges or universities in the northeastern United States, conveniently within watch of the Gossip Girl, who will no doubt be reporting on them for many volumes to come. VOYA CODES: 2Q 4P J S (Better editing or work by the author might have warranted a 3Q; Broad general YA appeal; Junior High, defined as grades 7 to 9; Senior High, defined as grades 10 to 12). 2004, Little Brown, 224p., Trade pb. Ages 12 to 18.

KLIATT
It's spring on the Upper East Side and all the senior girls and boys are finding out which colleges accepted them. Blair Waldorf, the high-strung beauty, has her eye on Yale (she even names her new baby sister Yale), while her on-again, off-again boyfriend, Nate Archibald, decides he'd be happy anywhere and tests how badly each school wants him. Serena van der Woodsen, the city's It Girl, makes an adventure out of visiting all the colleges that accepted her. She falls in love with each school (tour guide included), making her decision even more difficult. Back in the city, Vanessa Abrams, the artsy filmmaker, has already been accepted early to NYU's film school, so she has time to focus on her boyfriend, Dan Humphrey, an angst-ridden aspiring writer. After flirting with fame in the last book, Dan is now much more grounded and has time to devote to Vanessa. He also debates about university, and after moving in with Vanessa, he considers staying in New York to be close to her. Dan's sister, Jenny, idolizes Serena and pursues a modeling career (as a ninth grader, college isn't a concern). In the tradition of the last five books in this best-selling series, You're the One That I Want reads just like a gossip column. von Ziegesar makes entering these teenagers' world easy—in between chapters, there are brief selections from the ever-popular Web site, gossipgirl.net, in which an anonymous character reports on their lives. They party, get into trouble, and gossip like crazy. The series is as addictive as junk food, but frequent obscenities, sex scenes, drug usage and heavy drinking make the book inappropriate for younger readers. KLIATT Codes: SA*—Exceptional book, recommendedfor senior high school students, advanced students, and adults. 2004, Little, Brown, 230p., Ages 15 to adult.

Gossip Girl continues to be scandalous and juicy as the Upper East Siders receive their college acceptances,I felt really sorry for Blair as she only got in to Georgetown while Serena actually got into every college she applied to,Serena goes for visits to the various colleges and falls for three guys from three different schools!Blair is in a downward spiral but decides to visit Georgetown.Jenny gets published as a model and is the talk of the town in a bad way,You're the One That I Want is a great read and i want to devour the rest of the Gossip Girl series and having gorgeous keepsake posters on the back of the book jacket is just another bonus!

    Ooh, Ooh, Oooh, Honey!

Much better than the fifth one. Blair and Nate are back together and she loses her virginity to him, FINALLY!! But the book is mostly about them getting ready for college. Nate thinks he's going to Yale, after sabotaging his chances for Brown, on purpose. Blair goes on a miserable trip to Georgetown, and meets this group of crazy celibate girls. Serena wants to find "true love" at school, but during her tours she meets a lot of guys and then is over whelmed. She comes back after the weekend and she and Blair start talking again, after Blair's mother has her little sister, Yale. Blair seems to have dealt with the new sibling. Jenny with the help of Serena pursues modeling, at first it backfires, but then she gets a new photo shoot, and has to be on her best behavior or else go to a boarding school. Dan and Vanessa move in together, which seems good at first. Then Ruby's mooching friend comes and changes that, with her annoying pet. Dan thinks he has a future as a musician after the lead singer of the Raves discovers his poems and Dan sings with them. Again Dan and Vanessa seem to have broken up. At the end of the book you are left wondering, Will all the changes with the characters last? At first I thought Gossip Girl was getting boring with the fifth book, but "You're The One That I Want" proves hat this series isn't stopping and just keeps getting better.

GOTTA LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!! For mature 12 year olds and up

I love all of the Gossip Girls books! They are fun to read and I can never put them down because they are so good! I definitely recomend you to read this book. I would recomed a mature 12 year old and up to read this book. It talks about sex sometimes and stuff like that so just ask your mom first before you read it. That's what I did.

    I loved it!!

I absolutely loved this book. It is the sixth one in the series, and it was by far my favorite. If you are wondering why you should read it, here you go: 1.)The are several main characters in this book, and all of them are very different, so you may find yourself in their shoes. 2.)The author uses many details, So many, its almost like watching a movie. 3.)There are tons of cliffhangers in this book, so it will always keep you wanting more. 4.)It will make you laugh, but at times even cry. You really connect well with the book. But, before you read, you should know this: 1.)The author uses a lot of profanity, and there are situations mot suitable for children. 2.)Even though you can relate to the characters in some ways, most people cannot relate to the situations in the book. Most of the characters are famous and filty rich. 3.)At times, it can be sort of confusing. 4.)This book is very addicting. You read one of them, and suddenly you find yourself reading the other 10. (Which may not be a bad thing.) Overall, I really enjoyed this book, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone!

    FINALLY

What you are waiting for in the first four books finally happens. You knew it was coming, but not like this. There are many surprises and such in this specific Gossip Girl book. I actually think this might've been the been of the six books. All the crazy things that happen are sudden and happen in a way that you wouldn't of expected. I seriously recommend someone mature to read it. I went through it quite quickly because I loved it so much. Enjoy.

kind of shallow but funny at the same time!!!

You¿re the one that I want, by Cecily von Ziegesar, is about preppy, rich kids who get to do whatever they want. They are very snobby and shallow and are always talking about someone else. In this book, they are waiting for their college acceptance letters to come back and see which colleges they were accepted to. They are always complaining about something. They buy whatever they want and are always worried about what others will think of them. They try and find comfort in objects and or boys to calm their nerves while waiting for the letters. They won¿t be happy until they get their letters and get into all of the colleges that they applied to. Although this book is about a lot of rich, snobby kids, I really enjoy reading it. It¿s very interesting and funny to read. I think that some of the situations that they go through can relate to what I go through. They¿re teens in this book and regardless of how rich or poor you are, all teens go through some of the same situations. It¿s just funny to see how they would handle the different situations thrown at them. I think ultimately it¿s a good book because you can escape from reality while you¿re reading it. I can imagine the stress that they¿re going through while waiting for their letters so it¿s just interesting to read about it. It¿s funny because you don¿t think these types of things can actually take place so I enjoyed reading it. I¿ve actually read a lot of the novels from the Gossip Girl series and they¿re all interesting and funny to read.

    Everyone's a Gossip Girl

Although I really enjoyed 'Your The One That I Want,' the sixth Gossi Girl book, I think it focused a little too much on the colleges and I kinda found myself getting bored with it and wanting to put it down. I liked this book, but I dont think it's as good as the others.

    Very funny

Yes, it's about selfcentered rich girls, but that's what's fun about it! It may not be the type of book your teacher wants you to read, but I don't care. I like reading the gossipgirl-books. Highly recommend this one. Altough it can be a little exaggerated some times.
