SIX MONTHS IN THE LIFE OF THE WORLD'S MOST DANGEROUS TEENAGER
Youth in Revolt is the journals of Nick Twisp, California's most precocious diarist, whose ongoing struggles to make sense out of high school, deal with his divorced parents, and lose his virginity result in his transformation from an unassuming fourteen-year-old to a modern youth in open revolt. As his family splinters, worlds collide, and the police block all routes out of town, Nick must cope with economic deprivation, homelessness, the gulag of the public schools, a competitive type-A father, murderous canines, and an inconvenient hair trigger on his erectile response–all while vying ardently for the affections of the beauteous Sheeni Saunders, teenage goddess and ultimate intellectual goad.
These are the journals of Nick Twisp, California's most precocious diarist, whose ongoing struggles to make sense out of high school, deal with his divorced parents, and lose his virginity result in his self-described transformation from "brown-nosing honor student" to "modern youth in open revolt."

I would have to say that this book chronicals what would happen if a teenage boy tried and tried hard to fufil his erotic dreams with his sweetheart. Nick's ordeals and affairs with every charactor in the book is dark-humored and outrageous and is a must read for anyone who doesn't mind what actually goes on in the teenage mind. Fair warning goes out to you if drugs, sex and illegal scandals easily offend. If you hate to see the loving nerd become the bad boy once again skip this one. If you are seeking an outrageous, promisquous, and hillarious read, you have found your match.

This is possibly one of the funniest pieces of literature that I have ever read. With a delightfully disturbed character like Nick its hard to even put this book down! While reading I caught myself having to pause for my own laughter.

This may be my favorite book, it was hilarious. Nick Twisp is a great character, to whom you cheer for and cringe at. I never laughed out loud by reading before, until I read this. There are many crazy turns and right now im reading the second book "Revolting Youth" and its just as wonderful as this one. If you aren't sure on buying it, take in a couple of pages at B&N the first page is def. good enough to draw you in.

Payne really laid out a slew of great characters. The book is about Nick Twisp who goes away to a camp ground on "vacation" with his mother and her boyfriend and meets a young girl who he falls completely in love with. He tries everything to try to get her to sleep with him, to no avail. He goes through completely hilarious escapades trying to win over this girl, but when he leaves to go home is when the craziness continues. The book keeps you guessing and constantly laughing. All the characters have such strong hilarious attributes that make this book impossible to put down. Nick gets into tons of trouble, and gains multiple personalities at every turn of the page. Genius. One of my favorite novels.

This book is ridiculously funny! The plot just keeps thickening and twisting you feel so bad for poor Nick, but you can't help but laugh at his misfortunes. He meets and/or befriends so many geeks and freaks it gets a little hard to remember all of them, but all the quirky characters work so well. Some parts of the story are just for fun while others could have been cut and some parts are just to gross you out...all in all, it makes for a wild and sexually frustrated ride! I highly recommend it =)

Aaahmzing book. I can re-read this over and over again. I spent eery hour of my day reading this book. I got to know each and every character and felt like I could relate them to my life in many ways. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for an adventorous time. Michael Cera<3 I can't wait to read the sequel and while I wait for it to be mailed to me I will definitly be re-reading this one. I was somewhat surprised by the large amounts of sexual content, although it probrably explains why the mvie was Rated R. I would still recomment to any teen female or male. Adults..not so much.
MUST READ.
Woah factor 102%

I picked this book up about 15 years ago (my copy doesn't have Michael Cera on the cover, though), and instantly fell in love with it. Definitely one of the funniest books I've ever read. I would have never thought that teens with large vocabularies could be so endearing.

I do not understand how other reviewers could rate this 5 stars! It is a blatant Adrian Mole Diaries clone, with much more verbage and less wit. Why not just read Adrian?
I am angry that I bought it, and even more disappointed that I completely read it!

Do you like to read a book that has explosions, adult affairs, and running from the law that is all combined in a teenage love story? Youth in Revolt has all of these actions and more suspense, laughter, and those parents who just don't get that teenage mind. It is the first of the Diaries of Nick Twisp series. C.D. Payne is a comical genius, she will literally have you "laughing out loud" while reading this novel.
The protagonist Nick Twisp has a reputation of being a bit of a geek, sent out to the unknown world of public education after years of being in a high paid private school. Luckily an unexpected vacation keeps his mind off the mediocre education he will soon receive. He meets Sheeni an intelligent and very popular girl, you can make the argument of her being the queen bee of school. To Nick Sheeni is perfect in almost every possible way and he is willing to do anything to have her in his arms, even creating a fire in a major city that forces him to go in hiding so he can be with his love Sheeni. Even though Nick performed these actions he isn't in jail.for now.
Nick is the typical teenage underdog that every reader roots for him to get his main objective. As the audience we really get to know Nick in depth, of course this is Nicks personal diary we are reading. The story has a ton of dialogue , Nick has the average talks with his brain dead parents, and also has those very explicit teenage conversations. If you aren't into deep conversations then I'll save you some time telling you that you'll be reading 499 pages of pure dialogue with only mild actions. Of course, of you are familiar with these types of novels then you will be quite pleased with the in depth conversations, I find it quite pleasing.
The author didn't show much foreshadowing but to heighten the readers enjoyment she caused a lot of suspense by not knowing when Nick would "gain the affection" of a girl and how many obstacles he will endure. She also gives us enjoyment in reading by the provocative texts she writes. Setting wasn't too major in the story we only used it for the main purpose to tell us where Nick is and how far is it from the previous location, we must know this information quite a bit. The book was for the most part very easy to follow because the way Payne writes is very hard hitting and very interesting which will draw in the reader.
If you enjoy teenage stories that are filled with comedy and you are able to handle the explicit detail then this is definitely your type of book. The book is really a page turner and I'll gladly give it two thumbs up. Youth in Revolt is a master of black comedy.
Read it, and Nicks actions clearly tell us never give up, never surrender.

I think Nick doesn't get treated right by Sheeni! Most of the books are about him trying to get in her pants but I think he is just getting played by her.

i read this book when i was 13 and since then, it has been my most favorite book ever. nick is such a spontaneous, witty young man who in my eyes, if i was 14 today, he seems like the type of boy that i would have liked. HILARIOUS. the story is so fascinating, you will NEVER want to put it down.

This book starts off in seemingly realistic manner, but branches off into the bizzare and is funny the whole way through. The compelling plot entices you to read on and the format in which it's written (journal entries) provides a unique perspective. I was rooting for Nick the whole time.
