Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal
K-Gr 3—This sequel to The Zebra-Striped Whale with the Polka Dot Tail (Arimax, 2001) is as dismal as its predecessor. Most of the rhymes for each letter are innocuous, while some ("Q is for quail quilting in jail") are rather peculiar and others ("L is for llama lounging in a pajama") are ungrammatical. On the book jacket, Donahue asserts that the rhymes are phonics based, but some ("I is for iguana in Tijuana") are suspect in this regard. The digital illustrations by Thalamus (the name Donahue and her husband use when they collaborate) are busy in the extreme and garishly colored. Each page has a zebra-striped border that serves to distract from, not enhance, the presentation.—Grace Oliff, Ann Blanche Smith School, Hillsdale, NJ

My neice was given an autographed copy of this book as a birthday gift. The pictures are great and have lots of details that are fun to look at. For those with a sense of humor, the words and pictures make for lots of laughs. My niece loves to use this book to play teacher; she pretends that I'm her student as she reads to me. It makes a great learning game.

Zebra Striped Whale Alphabet book is one of my favorite children

Zebra Striped Whale Alphabet book is one of my favorite children's books in a long time. It is so much fun to read at night, before bed with the kids. They absolutely love the colorful illustrations, and really enjoy finding the whale on every page. It never gets old, as they will look for that whale over and over again! What a fun way to learn and review the alphabet!

Zebra-Striped Whale Alphabet Book is a rhyming, whimsical alphab

Zebra-Striped Whale Alphabet Book is a rhyming, whimsical alphabet book that associates each letter of the alphabet with real animals doing a most unreal or unusual thing. "L if for llama lounging in a pajama./M is for mouse mopping at her house." Bold, colorful illustrations add to the charm of this delightfully creative ABC book.
