Larry Phillips is a journalist, writer, and professional poker player. He has played poker most of his life and is equally comfortable competing with world-class players or two-dollar players. He lives in Monroe, Wisconsin, and placed second in the 1997 Wisconsin State Poker Tournament.

    Not bad for beginners

    This book is good for someone who has dabbled in eastern thought and poker, but it is not for the serious player. Strategey is limited to fundamentals and it is more oriented towards establishing a mindset about the game than it is advanced poker strategy. Anyone with significant poker experience will be bored by this book, but if you're just starting it's worth a read. Many other titles are less digestable, but more usefull. See: The Theory of Poker by Sklansky.

    Great compliment to your poker library

    Once you have read all of the basic strategy books out there, this is a great read to help you with the feel of the game and keeping your own head on straight. This is not a book on math odds, etc. but rather a book to get in (and stay) in the right frame of mind.

    Develop the right approach to the game

    I consider myself an advanded poker player and I highly recommend this book to anyone who is serious about the game. This is not a strategy book! What you will get from this book is advice on feeling the game. When you have your stragegy down and you understand the game, this book will help you take your play to the next level. An excellent read. I've read Sklansky, Caro, Brunson, Cloutier and several others. This is one book I recommend for every advanced player.
