Trained as a physician and scientist, Kira Bacal has worked at NASA-Johnson Space Center and the U.S. Senate as well as with the U.S. military. She qualified in two medical specialties and has numerous professional publications in medical and scientific journals and texts.
For her fiction writing, she was named the “Best Newcomer Author” in the January 2009 international Quibbler Awards and had one story win both “Best General” and “Best Chemistry” categories in the same awards. This same story, which appeared online, has enjoyed some recent popularity, with over 2,500,000 hits (and counting) from readers around the globe, primarily the US, UK, Australia, Canada, Japan, and Europe, but also places from Singapore to Botswana, Saudi Arabia to Guatemala.
Kira has also been a quarterfinalist in the “Writers of the Future” contest and runner up for the Higney Award at the magazine Another Realm.
She currently lives in New Zealand with her children and a large, vandalism-prone Leonberger.
