Overview

The breakout novel that puts S. Andrew Swann in the techno-thriller ranks of Clancy, Coonts, and Cussler!

Veteran writer S. Andrew Swann turns his talents to a mainstream techno-thriller that combines the authentic detail of Tom Clancy, the global intrigue of Jack Higgins, and the sheer adventure of Clive Cussler.

Gideon Malcolm was a Washington DC cop who stumbled into the midst of a high-level sting operation gone wrong and nearly paid with his life. Now he wants answers. But the government wants him to forget the whole thing. Yet Gideon wasn't about to give up, and what began with a stolen super computer soon led him on the trail of a missing woman, Dr. Zimmerman--and into the heart of a conspiracy so vast, so devastating, that the entire world would be caught up in its power!

Editorial Reviews

VOYA
Stephen Hawking meets Tom Clancy in this technothriller in which readers do not have to be up on their calculus, but they do perhaps need at least a passing knowledge of higher mathematics. Gideon Malcolm is a Washington, D.C., cop who, with the help of his FBI agent brother, follows a tip that might lead them to the thief who stole Daedalus, a supercomputer. While checking out a lead, they are ambushed, and Gideon's brother is killed. Gideon wakes up in the hospital and learns that members of a secret CIA terrorist organization attacked them. While on leave recovering from his injuries, Gideon tracks down the thieves. His search leads him to Julie Zimmerman, a mathematical genius supposedly working for the National Security Agency but with her own agendashe is searching for God in computers. She succeeds when the AI (artificial intelligence) comes alive for a few minutes. Unfortunately her work is invaluable to spies and terrorist organizations. Gideon finds corruption at the highest levels of the government, namely the president's national security advisor, Emmit D'Arcy. Gideon helps lead the good guys to the final fight in which Zimmerman and D'Arcy are killed and the terrorists are captured. Although the story is interesting, I got bogged down by the mathematical formulas and tended to fall asleep during the explanations. A good adventure for someone with an interest in math and AIs, this book is not for the casual reader.
