Zodiac 37
Over fifty years ago, the notorious Zodiac Killer began terrorizing the Bay Area cities of Benicia, Vallejo, Napa and San Francisco. He even threatened to shoot school children saying, "School children make nice targets. I think I shall wipe out a school bus some morning. Just shoot out the front tire and then pick off the kiddies as they come bouncing out." The infamous killer's weapons of choice were a .22 pistol, a .9-millimeter semi-automatic, a double-edge bayonet and a switch blade. He also insinuated that he had a death machine being stored in his basement for future use. The elusive killer drove what is known today as a classic muscle car, a white Chevy Nova, to his crime scenes. Although few serial killers leave calling cards behind, the Zodiac made morbid phone calls to law enforcement, wrote an incriminating message on a victim's car door and used pieces of a victim's blood shirt to prove his identity. The definitive publicity hound, he even wrote eerie cryptograms to three, major, Bay Area newspapers, demanding that they display them on their front page or he would go on a "killing rampage." Over the years, reams of newspaper and magazine articles, as well as several books that appeared on the Best Sellers List, were written about him. More recently, webpages were created about him, one receiving over a million hits in one month. My suspect, although in his early seventies, is still alive and well and living in an area not far from his crime scenes. Hiding in plain sight, he made a living as an ordinary salesman. In order to blend in, he got married, had children and is now a grandfather. He drove a white Chevy Nova, lived one-and-a-half miles from the first victim and went to school with her and matches the Napa Composite Drawing. It is also possible that his name appears in several of the Zodiac's cryptograms. It is my hope that this book will finally bring justice to his many victims.

About the Author

I grew up in the quaint town of Benicia, California, three miles from where the Zodiac killed his first victims in 1968. Four years later, I met a man from Vallejo who drove the same kind of car the Zodiac drove, matched the Napa Composite Drawing and fit the descriptions given by eyewitnesses and victims. He lived one-and-a-half miles from one of the first victims and went to school with her. It is even possible that his name appears in three of the Zodiac's coded messages. Years later, after I realized the possibility that he was the Zodiac, I took my information to law enforcement, who took it to two profilers. They both agreed, based on handwriting samples, etc., that my suspect was possibly the Zodiac Killer. It is my hope that they will finally begin an investigation into the possibility that he is the Zodiac and bring justice to the victims and their loved ones.
