The book resolves around a young heroine, Cassie, age 17. The first book sets the basis of who she is, who the main players in her life are, and who she is prior to the end of the world. She is a black belt in karate, she is a gun enthusiast (thanks to her father), she is independent and fiercely loyal to her friends and family. She is at the age where she is starting to really notice boys and their attention to her. I really enjoy this character. At times she is too stubborn, but overall her heart is in the right place.

I’m not going to outline the plot of each book, but talk about the books as a whole and why I like them.

There is a twist on how the zombies came in to being (I’m not going to spoil it)
The zombies don’t follow the traditional zombie rules
The books are funny, some of the characters are hilarious.
The characters are very well developed, the reader becomes attached to them
Plenty of action
During the third book, an element of mystery and suspense is held as the point of view is switched among characters. Very effective.
Elements of romance between Cassie and another character.
The actual “zombie games” are terrifying, yet incredibly imaginative
Page turner

I did appreciate the way the author handled the issue of gun safety. She made it abundantly clear that Cassie was extremely familiar with guns, was taught how to handle them properly and kept up her training with them. I feel that was incredibly responsible of the author. She also mentioned that those who did not know how to shoot used baseball bats or other bludgeons to kill zombies.

Some things that were sketchy:

sometimes in the action sequence, it is difficult to determine who is doing what to who — especially during the action sequence at the last “games” in book three, and immediately afterward
time sequence — it is not exactly clear how much time has passed throughout the books, that would be helpful

One thing I do have issue with, mainly from the first book, is the issue with vaccinations. I am a nurse. Of course I am pro-vaccination. Throughout the first book there is an undercurrent of anti-vaccination. I understand the author is entitled to her opinion, I just disagree with it.

Overall, I am addicted to this series. I would recommend it to anyone interested in the zombie genre as it is another take on the zombie apocalypse. Highly entertaining, engaging, fun. The characters are memorable, the action is believable, the author really paints the picture of a post-apocalyptic zombie wasteland.

The next book is due in March 2013.

I do read the zombie genre and I loved this take on zombies. It's a bit scarier when the zombies have different "attributes" than your typical zombie as in other books or movies in the genre. I loved the young heroine Cassie and her resolve to find her family and her growing confidence in herself and her abilities. There is an element of romance that is also intriguing and welcoming within all the gore.

Overall, a great zombie read that will hook you and have you reaching for the next.

I love gross and bloody zombie stuff which I know is a bit weird for a girl. But this by far is my fav book of a all time. Most zombie books have guys as the main character but this one was diffrent. I hate how a lot of people are pretty sexist but this had a girl as the main character. I mean I was the only girl on our football team! But I am very against people telling me that I cant do something because I am a girl. You can do anything if u set ur mind to it. If u were not grossed out at all by this book I recommend the tv series the walking dead. If u agree with me press yes!

Oh man, was this book amazing! Let me start off by saying I'm not at all a fan of zombies or any of that type of stuff so I went into this book hesitantly, but from the very beginning I could not put it down! Ms. Middleton is fast becoming a favorite author of mine and I am looking forward to the rest of this series! The characters are all very relatable and you can't help but feel an affinity for Cassie as she tries to find her mom and sister during the madness. And Bryce sounds like a total hottie! Lol!!! I recommend this book completely to everyone, even if you are like me and not normally a fan of the whole Zombie Apocolypse idea. It really is a fantastic read! Fbe stars all the way!

This was a great book! It is for teens and YA, but I think zombie lovers will really enjoy it! Very realistic, moved at a steady pace and the characters were believable. Meet Cassie and her family who now have to face a world of zombies. They also pick up some friends along the way! I will be checking out the next book in this series! ****spoiler I was close to giving it a 5, but I didn't, I would have liked to have seen Cassie a little more worried about her sister and dad. It was refreshing not to have a bunch of crying at every turn. I also thought Eva was a little over done, I think she wouldn't have been such a flirt with all of the zombies around.

Very good. Zombies, guns, teens and all. This is cool, though its in series. 401 pages, for me is short. A total must read...

Pretty good read. It held my attention and kept me wanting to know more. I really enjoyed the characters, they were very diverse and well developed. There were some funny parts which was a nice change, however it did happen a little too frequently to lend the story a lot of believability. There were parts that could have been intense or even scary but the joking around took away from it. There also just wasn't quite enough detail to really draw the reader in and the pacing was a bit off. I feel like there were times when Cassie was searching for her sister that could have had the reader ont he edge of her seat, had more detail been given. Instead it seemed very rushed and just didn't allow you to really feel what she was going through. I also had to roll my eyes a bit that almost EVERY character introduced knew how to shoot a gun and had been to a shooting range. I grew up with in a gun family with two brothers and a dad that hunt and shoot on a regular basis and I've shot guns-but I've never set foot in a shooting range. Seemed a bit of a stretch to me. (And just to add this since it seems to be a common problem among self-published zombie books-if the electricity is out you can't just pull up to a gas pump and get gas! That really bothers me.) Other than that it was really good and I will be more than happy to pay for her other books. I'm glad that there are some authors out there who are willing to create strong female characters. I'm getting awfully tired of all the Bella's out there. (Or even the Katniss' who are negative and unwilling to deal with reality.)

I liked it, it was interesting and it left off on a cliff hanger because its a series. Unfortunately, I'm having trouble finding book 2, 3, & 4 in english on my nook even when I type the tiltle and author in, which stinks because I really would like to see how the story plays out. Hopefully I can find it eventually.
