    Funny. Gross, too.

I bought this book for a boy who does not enjoy reading. When I handed it to him this Halloween, he paged through it (!) and I caught him actually reading it. Yeah! :D

Parents and teachers: this book is funny and gory. It's the gore and gruesomeness that make it entertaining. There is actually less of a yuck factor here than most movies in the theater. (more gore in e.g. Twilight than in this book.)

There are plenty of pictures to add flavor to the text, and not too many words on a page. (3 haikus per page, on average, for a total of 9 lines of poetry on each page.)

    A fun read

This is a fun must read for anyone who likes zombie flicks. I took it to school and all my room mates have given it their seal of approval :P The author is funny and very descriptive.

Very cool, funny and dark visual book

This book is a fun read. The poetry is solid and often funny. The mix of photography and haikus make this a great book for your coffee table. If you like zombie books with photos or illustrations like Zombies or Voyeur Dead you will Love Zombie haiku!

Perfect gift for the odd little brother

I bought this as a Christmas gift for my little (25 year old) brother. I read it straight through before I wrapped it and he read it straight through as soon as he unwrapped it. And then he quoted from it for the rest of Christmas. It was a definite hit. Who knew Christmas and zombies were such a good combo.

    Fun

This is a quick and entertaining read, but be careful it might make you hungry! It should be noted that this is not for easily nauseous.

    Engage students

I happened across this book by chance. Some of it is gross, some of it hysterical, but it inspired a lesson plan. What a great way to teach haiku at Halloween. The book is engaging, quick to read, and fun. My students loved reading portions of this book (some bits are not fit for the classroom, esp. in the Bible Belt) and then creating their own Halloween haiku.

    Bloody, Gory Haiku

Now when I fist heard about this book I was expecting just a collection of gross haikus about eating flesh and bloody entrails spilling out on the ground. Instead I was pleasantly surprised by the reality of the book. Instead of random 3 line poems that didn't tie into together the author presented a story told through haiku. It was about a young mans journey from terrified human being to flesh eating zombie who slowly decomposed on his journey to feed his hunger.

Now as story it works on almost every level except for maybe the disjointed affect the form naturally has. Taken separately the haiku doesn't work because most are told in a narrative form rather than a pure poetic style.

Some of my favorites that do work by themselves are:

    little old ladies,
    speed away on their wheelchairs,
    frightened meals on wheels

    I loved my momma.
I eat her with my mouth closed,
    how she would want it.

I encourage anyone with a taste that runs a little strange like mine does to pick this book up and enjoy. I recently discovered that the author has written a new book entitled Vampire Haiku, so I will be adding that to my TBR pile very, very soon.

    Awesome Read!

This is totally one of those awesome books you pick up and can't put down until you finish it. I totally loved this collection and stayed up all night reading this book after I picked it up! =D

Along with Mecum's work, I also recommend The Photos in the Closet by Daniel E. Lopez and any works by Alison Townsend. These are two great writers that will compliment Mecum's work really well.

    Hysterical!

This book was incredible. In addition to being a novel idea, the author also has the ability to capture your attention the entire book through despite the awkward writing form. My only complaint is that it was not long enough.

    Amazing

The book itself, is amazing. Absolutely fantastic. It has very gruesome pictures, and lots of blood. It is also quite funny. I do not know if zombies are very inspiring or motivating, but the book... Brilliant!

    Exciting Adventurous Book About Zombie

Zombie Haiku was a very exciting and interesting read. It's about a guy that turns into a zombie, and writes about it, as he is decaying. Pretty sick, but really good. ***** 5 stars. There is also a commercial from the book that was on the tv show Attack of the Show and YuoTube made it one of their featured videos. View it by searching 'zombie haiku'.
