Overview

Those who don’t learn from history are condemned to repeat it.

From the Stone Age to the information age, the undead have threatened to engulf the human race. They’ re coming. They’re hungry.

Don’t wait for them to come to you!

This is the graphic novel the fans demanded: major zombie attacks from the dawn of humanity. On the African savannas, against the legions of ancient Rome, on the high seas with Francis Drake . . . every civilization has faced them. Here are the grisly and heroic stories–complete with eye-popping artwork that pulsates with the hideous faces of the undead.

Organize before they rise!

Scripted by the world’s leading zombie authority, Max Brooks, Recorded Attacks reveals how other eras and cultures have dealt with–and survived– the ancient viral plague. By immersing ourselves in past horror we may yet prevail over the coming outbreak in our time.

Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
It all began with the sighting of a rampant herd of dead creatures. Calls and warnings had no effect; before long, the Foreign Legion was under siege by zombies who moved inexorably forward. Max Brooks, the author of the original Zombie Survival Guide and World War Z, leads readers through the untold history of undead incursions through history and prehistory.

    It was good but...

lol, it was a fun read but on the ilustration part of the book the bottom part is cut away because it does not fit the screen size for the nook so u dont get to enjoy the whole story wich can be annoying since for full price paid u should get the full book...and i havent found a way to fix that...even on the nook pc app it is the same so i feel a bit cheated since i probably would not have bought the book had i known that.

    I Also Recommend:

    Good but over priced

Don't get me wrong, but this graphic novel is over priced. I read this book in ten minutes. I loved Brook's first two books and was really looking forward to this one. I bought it without even realizing how short it was. I figured it was worth the $17.00 dollars. I would recommend this graphic novel if it were about $6.00 to $7.00 dollars, but I just can't recommend it for the price. While it had a great plot, it was just way too short the amount of money spent. I would highly recommend Brook's first two books, The Zombie Survival Guide and World War Z to anyone that likes zombie movies/books.

    Get sample only

I recommend getting only the sample as the only things added are bits from Zombie Survival Guide and World War Z so dont bother if you have those already, if not then its good to see what they are like.

    Don't buy

The free sample is essentially the entire book. Buying actual book only adds two sample chapters - one from World War Z and one from the Survival Guide.

    Great

Ebook for "ZSG: Recent Attacks" looks good on my Nook Tablet when purchased at the B & N website. Free sample has same content as purchased version. Be aware. Just remember that if you like it that you should pay the author and artist for their work. High quality black/white graphics. Story and images were good. Very interesting graphic novel.

I downloaded the sample and found that it was pretty much the entire book! It's a great read for anyone who likes the zombie genre and the illustrations add a great element to the whole thing. Great book.

A fast read that packs a punch

Max Brook's newest installment of his zombie journalism series is a book of short stories in comic book form. This report is very enlightening, detailing the presence and outbreaks of the zombie virus throughout time. The narratives are arranged in chronological order, from 60,000 BC to AD 1992. The places of each incident are as diverse as the time periods, starting from Central Africa and ending in California. The important part of this text is how other cultures in different time periods reacted to and survived the zombie outbreak so we can learn from others' experiences when zombies attack our own cities.

I read this book in about a half an hour. This graphic novel is very fast read, but it packs a punch. It is indeed very graphic and not for the faint of heart. I don't think I've ever seen zombies drawn with such care and attention. Every sinew, bite, and bone is very detailed. The art is simply amazing. In my opinion, it might have been more powerful if it had been in color, but it's still enjoyable in black and white.

There is very light dialog and narrative, but the art shows you a lot of the story. A lot of narration isn't really necessary. It's a great way to utilize the form of a graphic novel. Each story has the same basic plot in that zombies attack and they must learn how to defeat them swiftly or face the same fate as their attackers. However, each had different characters and ways of dealing with them. I was impressed that so much can be told in a very short story. Each of the scenes were unique and evoked a different emotion. A couple made me laugh, but a some gave me a sick, sinking feeling in my stomach. (I love when I get that feeling from something I'm reading.) Most of those moments were because of the derangement and cruelty of man in events in history more than the zombies. My favorite story is the one about Ancient Egypt and the possible reason behind their traditional treatment of the dead.

I would recommend reading The Zombie Survival Guide and World War Z first, because this is a more of a supplementary text (and those two books are awesome), but I think it can still be enjoyed all by itself. I would recommend this to zombie fans with a high tolerance for gore.

A great addition to Brooks' series

Building on World War Z and the Zombie Survival Guide, Brooks' pairs up with some fantastic artists for a great graphic representation of the history of recorded zombie attacks. A must for any fan of the zombie-genre.
