Meet the Author

A child of the movies, I was always consumed by fantastic stories told by others and translated into adventures to be retold by me through the action figure medium. As I grew older, I put the action figures away and moved into the realm of role playing. Though I never outgrew role playing, I certainly don't have the time for it anymore. Since I was eleven years old, I've been pouring almost every ounce of creative energy I have into writing. I graduated college in 1993 with a degree in computer science. I tried my hand at programming for a couple of years and found it pretty unsatisfying. I later became a partner at a comic book store, where I spent several years. Though it wasn't a financial success, the experience I gained from running the store and the people that I met (many of whom I'm still in touch with today) was priceless. After leaving the store, I settled into a career of teaching. I still teach at a public high school in New York. Ironically, I've picked up computer programming again, which is what I mostly teach. I've been writing the whole time. I released my first book electronically in 2010. Forty Leap was a turning point for me in both style and story building. The Book of Revelations, which was written earlier but released later, was sort of a midway point between the writer I was and the writer I've become. I experimented with a very odd style and a story that employed diverse characters and controversial situations. In September 2010, I released the first installment of Zombies! Zombies! has been a tremendous success for me that came very close to being made into a television series. Since Zombies!, I have written a five part miniseries called Castes and have been working on developing tabletops games, the first of which, ApocalypZe, was published in early 2014. A couple of free stories about some of the characters in ApocalypZe have been released. I have written others and am working on putting them together into a novel.

When I first discovered Zombies I read six episodes back to back in a matter of a few days. Since then the publishing dates have forced me to slow down a bit. (The author writes and publishes one episode a month.) At 99 cent an episode its a great deal; each episode is probably 200-300 pages long. While there is blood and gore it is not overly detailed. The story focuses more on the characters and how they react to the ever present zombies. It's a great series and I plan on seeing it through to the end.

I loved this book. Although i would have given it 5* if it had a bit more action.

Well written. I'd definitely read the others in the series. I just wish it wasn't called "Shawn of the Dead", lol.

This story definately connected the emotional lives of all affected by a zombie virus. Just the cusp. Looking forward to reading more. Enjoy

This is a short book (only 108 pages) which feels more like a young adult title or a cheap mini-series on the Syfy channel. But for a free ebook it's not a total waste of time. Not a lot of gore or horror going on here so I was disappointed. It's more of a character-driven suspense story with a little cliff-hanger ending trying to entice you to continue reading the next book in the series. The characters are too cliche and the plot is very Hollywood. I also have a pet peeve about authors who outright describe each character's personality without letting the reader deduce it for themselves based on dialogue and actions (i.e. "Stemmy was extremely intelligent with tremendous powers of observation."). But otherwise the editing is good and I didn't notice any obvious spelling or grammatical errors. Bottom-line: This book is free and is at least worth the time to read it. Keep your expectations low and you'll be mildly entertained.

>>This whole series has been one hell of a ride! Fast paced and interesting characters. The story really pulls you in. Highly recommend start with book one and you will be hooked. Some punctuation and grammer errors but they do not distract from the book too much.

(If your looking for blood, guts, and zombie gore this book is not for you.)The only reason I gave this book three stars is because it is a short and it lets you hang. The rest of the episodes must be purchased. It was a good start and I will definately purchase the next one. After that we will see. It was a little sparse and I would have liked to have gotten more indepth, hopefully the next one will do so. All in all a good quick read (about 1 hour). I will read more by this author.

The writing left a lot to be desired, as did the story line. The characters weren't bad, but I still couldn't finish reading the story.

Well written, it was quite a surprise. I have read a few of the others in this series and they have been entertaining.

This tells the story of the unspoken characters of the zombie apocolypse. Those trying to live their life, day by day, as their world is warped into something out of the horror section. I enjoyed this short story because it is character-centered and focuses on relationships and emotions rather than blood, guts, and gore. Looking forward to reading the rest of the series!

I loved the first episode. What if zombies truly started walking the Earth. The answer to that starts to develop in the 1st episode of the series. Truly an awesome read, I highly recommend this book. I can't wait for the next installment.

Ivan Turner's Zombies! is truly a diamond in the rough and a shoe-in for any serious top ten zombie fiction list. A list that includes obvious choices such as Walking Dead, World War Z and Autumn. Yes, it's that good. Set in modern-day Manhattan (pre-apocalypse), Zombies! features exceptional character development, a plausible storyline and scary, graphic encounters with the undead. If you are as picky about your Zombie stories as I am, you won't be disappointed. This is a real page turner that is worth much more than the asking price. Spread the word!

It was a good story. An easy read, gives a different perspective on the "epidemic" of zombies.

I was looking to read something while I wait for The Walking Dead's next comic and came upon this. At first I thought it had to do with Shawn of the Dead the movie, but I was wrong. It's better! I am totally hocked. Read both the first and second today. The price is great, but totally bumbed that I will have to wait monthly for every new episode. Keep 'em coming!!!

This is Turner's first book in his Zombies! series and it is off to a solid start. In a way this is similar to the new "Fear The Walking Dead" series in that it begins before the epidemic is wide spread and most people are unable or unwilling to accept the fact that there are such things as zombies. It begins with the teenage Shawn leaving school on his way to meet an older lover. On his way he sees what he knows to be a zombie, after all he has seen his share of horror movies. He is able to kill the undead, but when he turns on the victim as well it's not long before the police become involved. I don't want to give too much away, since Turner is really good at introducing us to his characters, some of whom he has plans for in later books. Needless to say, I recommend the book and look forward to what the author has in store for his characters and the world they inhabit.

Just completed Zombies by Ivan Turner books 1 – 10. This was a very good story, stretched out over 10 books, I guess it was originally published in monthly episodes but I was lucky enough to get all 10 at B & N so I could read them back to back. I hate having to wait months or longer for the next in a series. Anyway, each episode is 200-300 pages long. The series is a good story with good character development and how the characters reacted and lived through a zombie apocalypse in New York City. There is some blood and guts, but the stories don’t dwell on it. Lots of human interaction with the zombies. On to the next set which I hope has already been completed and I can read as I did this set. Thank you Ivan Turner for a really good story.

It's what a zombie book should be. The real story isn't about the undead, it's about the rest of us who aren't infected yet. Looking forward to reading the rest of the episodes.

Great story that got me hooked on the series. I originally bought the first episode becuase I like the movie "Shawn of the Dead" and assumed it was something similar or related. The story is not affiliated with the movie but it is such quick reading and really captured my interest. The world of zombies has earned a new fan!
