Children's LiteratureThere does not seem to be any pattern or logic associated with the selection of zoo animals. Some you would expect—giraffe, elephant, zebra and tiger while others are less familiar—leopard, turtle and lemur. The pictures show each of the animals engaged in a variety of activities which should encourage interaction with little ones with whom you may be sharing the book. This board book is part of the "babygenius" series and the back cover gives caregivers a few pointers such as encouraging toddlers to hold the book and turn pages, acting out behavior and sounds the animals might make and looking at the pattern that constitutes the background for the photographs. So while there may be no pattern to the animals selected there is a pattern on each spread that relates to the animals coloration. 2004, DK, Ages 18 mo. to 3.
