Editorial Reviews

PreS-Gr 2-Recalling "Goldilocks and the Three Bears," this story portrays a loving fox family. When Zorrito breaks his mother's favorite chair, the quest for a replacement is on. Despite trying dozens of models in the furniture store, Mama is still unhappy, providing Papa and Zorrito the opportunity to put their paws to work in reconstructing the old chair. Youngsters will identify with a parent who scolds but still loves her child and the obvious guilt Zorrito feels when looking at the empty place where the chair used to sit. The warm illustrations feature doglike chubby foxes but otherwise realistic details in soothing pastels. Sure to be a popular read-aloud with preschool listeners, the story should also please and challenge young readers ready to go beyond basal texts. A winner for libraries and bookstores alike.
