Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Written in a magazine-like format, this book is everything you ever wanted to know about sleep. Six chapters dealing with issues such as Sleep for Life, The Body's Clock, Stages of Sleep, and Tossing and Turning are well researched and discussed with just the right amount of text and colored drawings that both entertain and inform. As we learn more and more about the functions of the human brain, the mystery of sleep or lack thereof is revealed. Did you know, for instance, that turkey contains an amino acid that makes you sleepy? That explains why everyone seems to need a nap after Thanksgiving dinner. There are all kinds of interesting facts that will interest not only kids, but adults because sleep involves us all. This book would be a great beginning to a fascinating science project. Whatever your level of interest, there's something for everyone in this well written book. An extensive index accompanies the text. 2002, Kids Can Press,

School Library Journal
Gr 3-6-Although this volume is filled with cartoon illustrations, the text is well written and full of factual information, covering topics such as REM sleep, nightmares, sleepwalking, dreams, hibernation, and sleep disorders. The text is loosely organized by topic (stages of sleep, tossing and turning, etc.). The writing style is breezy and conversational, but focused enough to be complete and accurate. Page backgrounds vary in washed-out primary colors with plenty of illustrations of snoozing people in pajamas and animals in nightcaps.-Christine A. Curious children will find plenty to interest them and answer their questions.
Science Books & Films
Each page of the book discusses an aspect of sleep (e.g., yawning and dreams) of topical interest, illustrates the concept with a cartoon, and has a box of short text that addresses the topic. This is a captivating and informative presentation. The book is filled with interesting facts such as details of animals’ sleep; the loudest snore; the longest period of wakefulness; and the sleep habits of some famous people - Einstein, Churchill, and Edison.
