The Big Love: A Novel
by Sarah Dunn
Dunn's debut novel, about a cheeky newspaper columnist's efforts to get over the man she (wrongly) thought was her Mr. Right, was tapped as "top-shelf chick lit" that "transcends its genre with 3-D characters and empathy" by New York magazine. And The New York Times observes, "The ground is littered with failed attempts at I-lost-my-boyfriend attempts at comic fiction. But Ms. Dunn's book is brighter and funnier than most."

Only a Mother...

"It took me an embarrassingly long time to write this book. Five years -- and if you bother to read it you’ll see why I’m embarrassed by that figure," Dunn quips in our exclusive interview. "It took so long, really, that after I had sold it to Little, Brown, my mother said to me, 'You know, don’t take this the wrong way, but last spring I started to suspect that maybe you weren’t writing anything at all! I thought, well, Sarah sees that shrink all the time, maybe this novel she talks about is just a figment of her imagination.' "

The Secret History
by Donna Tartt
We asked Dunn to dish with us about some of her favorite reads. On her list is Donna Tart'ts chilling tale of hijinks among the highly educated. "I am jealous of people who haven’t read this book, truly envious of them, because they can still read it for the first time," Dunn reveals.
