Dave Barry's History of the Millenium (So Far)
by Dave Barry
Thucydides, Gibbon, Tuchman, McCullough - to the names of the world's great historians must now be added the name of Dave Barry, who has taken a long, hard look at our new millennium (so far) and, when he stopped hyperventilating, has written it all down, because nobody would believe it otherwise. A brilliantly funny exploration of the tumultuous recent past from the Pulitzer Prize-winning humorist.

Peter and the Secret of Rundoon
by Dave Barry, Ridley Pearson
In this action-packed finale to the Starcatchers series, Peter and Molly find themselves in the dangerous land of Rundoon, ruled by an evil king who enjoys watching his pet snake consume those who displease him. But that's just the beginning of problems facing our heroes, who once again find themselves pitted against the evil shadow-creature Lord Ombra in a struggle to save themselves, not to mention the planet. It's a wild desert adventure, with rockets, carpets, and camels all flying through the air, zooming toward an unforgettable climax...

Getting Serious for a Moment

Barry's web site is a modest affair ("Eventually, there might be a real site here, once we're convinced that this Internet thing is really going to catch on"). But he does feature a moderately earnest FAQ for students. His advice for aspiring journalists includes staying away from grad school in favor of work experience, interning at newspapers, and courses in English and history. He also has a message to send to the teenagers of America: "Your hats are backward."
