Alter Ego Trip
In an interview with her publisher, Barr talks about how she got inspired to create her beloved heroine, Anna Pigeon: "Anna was conceived as my alter ego when I was working as a law enforcement ranger in Guadalupe Mountains National Park in Texas. Track of the Cat, the first book, was not written as the first in a series, but as an expression of who I was then set amid murder and mayhem. Since then, Anna has evolved into her own person."

In her interview with Barnes & Noble.com, Barr cites Jack Finney's classic time-travel tome, Time and Again, as having a great influence on her: "It had a plot idea that captured my imagination so completely then, because the character development was so beautiful -- it allowed me to really live in the world he took me to, so much so that when I'd finished, it felt like a memory of my own life."
The Princess Bride
In our interview, Barr talked about her favorite books, among them William Goldman's The Princess Bride.
