Meet the Writers

									Elizabeth BergElizabeth Berg
A former nurse with a caretaker's eye for the details of needing and being needed, Elizabeth Berg doesn't shy from the "women's writer" association. She writes with humor and sympathy about the small earthquakes upending women's lives and their extraordinary, human ways of setting things right again.

A Girl Named Zippy: Growing Up Small in Mooreland, Indiana
by Haven Kimmel
Asked to come up with a selection for the NBC Today show's book club, Berg chose this 2001 memoir of youth in a small (and we mean small -- pop. 300) town in Indiana. Kimmel recollects moments from babyhood on up with a keen, humorous eye.

Berg's Hang-Up

Occasionally, readers find Elizabeth Berg's number and ring her up -- sometimes to pay her a compliment, sometimes for unwarranted publishing favors. They might not imagine Berg has been in the same position, as she admitted in a publisher's interview: She tried to call Erica Jong to tell her how much she enjoyed Fear of Flying. " a number, dialed it, and then hung up," Berg said. "I wanted to tell her how much I loved the book, but I was afraid I'd be bothering her and/or sound like an idiot." Here are some other authors for whom Berg has professed admiration -- but not necessarily any phone attempts.

*  Alice Munro
*  E. B. White
