| | | Todd Parr Even if you have never seen one of his books, you may already be familiar with Todd Parr's work from seeing bedding or toys emblazoned with his bold, colorful art. With his positive, slyly humorous picture books, Parr encourages toddlers and preschools to embrace their individuality and communicate what they feel. It's nearly impossible to look at his pages and not smile, no matter what age you are.

Dr. Seuss Parr's basic lines and use of color have led to comparisons with Keith Haring, an artist that Parr acknowledges as an influence. "I'm a real big fan of Keith Haring, obviously," Parr told fans in a 2000 online chat. "My work, earlier, was compared to his, which was flattering, because I related to his work. That's a style that I wanted to do, but it was not acceptable because he crossed the line. It wasn't acceptable to me to do, but Keith Haring opened up a whole new world in the art with a simple style of bold images." Parr has also praised the work of Dr. Seuss, Curious George authors H. A. and Margret Rey, Maya Angelou and Vivian Walsh (Olive, the Other Reindeer).
