Suzanne Collins

Suzanne Collins is the American author famous for her dystopian post–apocalyptic YA series, The Hunger Games trilogy (comprised of the books The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, Mockingjay and the prequel, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes). The immensely popular science fiction books were turned into phenomenally successful films. Collins started out as a writer for children's television shows featured on Nickelodeon and PBS. The novelist first made her mark in children's literature with the New York Times bestselling Underland Chronicles fantasy series for middle grade readers, which started with Gregor the Overlander. She lives in Connecticut with her husband and two children.

Suzanne Collins is best known as the author of The Hunger Games, a dystopian YA book series that has also been developed into popular films. After working on several children's TV shows on Nickelodeon, Collins felt inspired to write children's books herself. Her career as a novelist was set in motion with a five book children's series, The Underland Chronicles, then she went on to write The Hunger Games. The first book in the The Hunger Games series was originally released in 2008, followed consecutively by Catching Fire and Mockingjay in 2009 and 2010. Who Wrote the Hunger Games and Why?

Hunger Games author Suzanne Collins took inspiration for the series partly from the Greek myth of Theseus and the Minotaur and partly from her father's air force career which shed light upon the effects of poverty, war, and hunger on the human race.
