When you’re passionate about books, there’s nothing quite like sharing your literary love with people in need—particularly children, for whom access to books at a young age helps foster a love of reading that will entertain, comfort, and inspire them for the rest of their lives. When you donate a picture book or a middle grade novel to a child, you’re doing more than just helping them build a home library they can feel proud of. You’re also feeding their imagination, encouraging their creativity, and giving them a portal through which they can visit other worlds.
Through our annual Holiday Book Drive, from November 1st through December 31st, Barnes & Noble stores donate books to hundreds of charities across the country every year. Last year Barnes & Noble donated 1.2 million books to over 630 local charities nationwide that provide services to disadvantaged children—and since the program began, we have donated over 20 million books to hospitals, schools, literacy organizations and social service organizations across the country.
December 3rd is Giving Tuesday, an internationally recognized holiday dedicated to charitable giving. Arriving just after Thanksgiving, on the heels of Black Friday, and at the start of another hectic holiday season, it offers the perfect opportunity to pause, reflect upon all that we have to be grateful for, and take a few moments to give back to others.
This Giving Tuesday, customers can partner with Barnes & Noble’s book drive to help books reach young readers of all ages who really appreciate them. To be a part of our annual Book Drive, simply visit your local Barnes & Noble store this holiday season and purchase a book for a child in need. You can find your local store using the Store Locator, and your local bookseller can let you know the charity your story is supporting—and if you’re unsure of what children’s books to donate, they can help you choose a picture book or middle grade novel that’s sure to put a smile on a child’s face. Please join us in making this year’s Barnes & Noble Holiday Book Drive a success! Our stellar booksellers and generous customers are the driving force behind millions of donations that make their way into grateful hands.
