Romance Roundup: Pastors, Naval Officers, and BDSM-Loving Nannies

This week’s Romance Roundup includes a woman and a pastor who really need each other, a widow about to get another chance at love, and two reunited lovers with some serious family issues.

Any Dream Will Do, by Debbie Macomber
Shay Benson did some very naughty things in order to help her brother avoid major trouble. (He never deserved your help, Shay!) That was years ago, though, and now she’s determined to rebuild her life. She meets Drew Douglas, a widower and pastor with two kids and, you know, a flock to lead. (Drew, buddy, sounds like you could use a nice woman in your life. I know a gal!) Unlike Shay’s brother and his shady acquaintances, Drew is, like, a super nice guy who has also been having a rough time. Shay, Drew, misery loves company, and guess what? When you two come together, you’ll realize that you don’t HAVE to be miserable any longer! Here’s hoping these two lovebirds soon realize that they can be super-duper happy together, and that Shay stays away from further family-related drama. (Available in hardcover, paperback, and NOOK on August 8.)

Map of the Heart, by Susan Wiggs
History buffs will love Wiggs’ latest! Camille Palmer is finally settling back into a peaceful existence after the tragic death of her husband. She’s got a teenage daughter and a dad to look after, so she’s quite busy. (Camille, massages and champagne on all of us!) Then a mysterious package arrives, and the three of them go back to France, where Camille’s dad lived during World War II. Oh, and Camille meets a very handsome former naval officer during her travels. (Note to Camille: Find out ASAP if he kept his uniform!) A nice lady who gets another chance at love with a hunky man in the French countryside while surrounded by loved ones? Yes, we’ll all take that tale with a glass of wine and a chocolate croissant! (Available in hardcover, paperback, and NOOK on August 22.)

The Forbidden, by Jodi Ellen Malpas
Our gal Annie hasn’t ever really felt the feelings for any guy. (That is, she hasn’t ever really felt the feelings in her pants, if you know what I mean. Do you? You do? Okay, moving on!) Then her friends take her out for a night of fun and she meets Jack, who instantly makes her feel all of the feelings she never thought she’d ever feel. They have a very, very memorable night together, one that surely involves Jack using every trick in his book. (Oh, Annie, tell us more! Give us all of the savory details over a vat of wine and carb-filled appetizers!) Annie and Jack aren’t exactly in a position (hehe, “position,” LOL) to take their special relationship public, though. Can their love help them get to a place where they can have everything out in the open, and we can read all about it? (Available in paperback, audiobook, and NOOK on August 8.)

The Flirtation, by Tara Sue Me
Lynne is working as a nanny for a couple named Nathaniel and Abby, and one day they invite her to a BDSM meeting. (Oh, if only all of our bosses could be so cool and stop inviting us to their band rehearsals because they are preparing for A Big Show that will give them their Big Break!) Lynne is no stranger to the world of dominants and submissives, though, and she’s ready to be part of the fun again. While surfing some steamy online forums, she comes across Simon, her former dominant, and she decides to stay anonymous while catching up on his activities. But staying anonymous with a guy like Simon is impossible. His scent alone makes the strongest woman want to drop panty. Will he be thrilled with his blast from the past? This is the tenth book in Me’s Submissive series. (Available in paperback and NOOK on August 8.)

Black Sheep, by Zara Cox
Axel Rutherford and his dad don’t exactly have the best relationship. It might be because Axel’s dad kind of, sort of, emotionally manipulated Axel’s girlfriend (and did much worse) when she and Axel were still very young. Years went by, and Axel still has major feelings for said girlfriend, Cleo McCarthy. Cleo hasn’t forgotten Axel, and if anything the years have made her want him back in her life even more. They’ve each got (newsflash!) some really weird and evil family members, so here’s hoping they manage to escape from it all for good. This is the second book in Cox’s Dark Desires series, which is perfect for romance readers who want heaping doses of darkness and intensity in their love stories. (Available in paperback and NOOK on August 8.)

Grand Slam, by Heidi McLaughlin
Travis Kidd plays left field for the Boston Renegades, and many a man-admiring lady would be more than happy to pay top-dollar for seats that provide an excellent view. One admirer of his is Saylor Blackwell. She is a public relations guru for his team, but the powers that be have a “No Touching” policy when it comes to finagling with the players. Saylor, understandably, really wants to finagle with Travis, though. Then a scandal breaks, and they will really need to spend some time together. Sounds like they’ve got plenty to keep them busy—and strengthen their bond! This is the third book in McLaughlin’s Boys of Summer series. (Note to romance readers: These books can be enjoyed in any weather. Then they can be framed and each piece hung up as tasteful home décor.) (Available in paperback and NOOK on August 15.)
