This week’s Romance Roundup includes a woman on a quest for some sunken treasure, a high society lady who thought she was a widow—until her husband showed up at her wedding, and two animal shelter volunteers with a very interesting backstory.
Dangerous Embrace, by Nora Roberts
Two reprinted fan favorites in one volume! In “Treasures Lost, Treasures Found,” our gal Kate Hardesty is on a mission to find sunken treasure. (No, she has not lost her mind! Her late father was an explorer and did a lot of preparatory research, so her mission is quite legit.) Kate will need to dive to exceptional depths if she’s going to have a chance at finding the goods, so she reaches out to Ky Silver. He is a blast from Kate’s past, and he looks REALLY good in a diving suit. (Well done, Ky! Well done!) Trouble is, they didn’t exactly part on the best of terms. Will they find this wonderful treasure AND let bygones be bygones? In “Risky Business,” dive shop owner Liz Palmer is living the good life in Cozumel, Mexico. Then her employee gets killed. Enter his super hot twin brother. Together, they’ll need to dodge some serious bad guys. Will this man get to find some peace and closure? And when all the drama is over, will he and Liz get to spread out nice and nekkid on a secluded Mexican beach? (Available in paperback and NOOK on July 30.)

Brazen and the Beast, by Sarah MacLean
Lady Henrietta “Hattie” Sedley may be The Big 2-9, but she’s not going to let THAT stop her from being fabulous and having fun and taking over her father’s business. (That’s right, Hattie! You tell those overfed, self-absorbed “high society” people to stick their sexist, backwards opinions where the proverbial and literal sun doesn’t shine!) Oh, she also wants to have some more, ahem, carnal fun. Just as she’s about to go out in search of said carnal fun, she finds a super hot guy known around town as Beast tied up inside of her carriage. (Talk about a meet cute!) Beast has quite the reputation for being a bit of a deliciously naughty character. Hattie unties him (why?), and when he discovers her carnal plans, he decides he is more than willing to help. They both also soon realize they’ll be in each other’s lives on a far more permanent basis. (Sounds good, you two! May the biggest problem in your lives together be toning down that meet cute story for the grandkids!) This is the second book in MacLean’s Bareknuckle Bastards series. (Available in hardcover, paperback, audiobook, and NOOK on July 30.)
The Missing Piece, by Sharon Sala
Private investigator Charlie Dodge is about to get involved in a huge case, and it kind of comes at an inconvenient time. His wife has early-onset Alzheimer’s, and so she doesn’t really remember life with her husband. Charlie needs to look into something for millionaire Carter Dunleavy. Carter has purposefully disappeared from the public eye because some really bad people want him dead, and so he desperately needs Charlie’s help. (Charlie, we’re all totally willing to hang out with your beloved wife while you take on this case and remind her that you are a manly man among men who loves her very much! We’ve all seen “The Notebook!” We have ideas! And confidence!) Here’s hoping that Charlie solves this mystery soon, that he and his wife can still have many happy times, and that somehow everyone involved can take the tropical vacation they deserve! (Available in hardcover, paperback, audiobook, and NOOK on July 30.)

Marry in Secret, by Anne Gracie
Lady Rose Rutherford is about to tie the knot with the most eligible bachelor in London. Just as they are about to say their vows, their wedding gets crashed by none other than Thomas Beresford. Rose and Thomas secretly married several years ago, and she actually thought he’s been dead for the past four years. (Nope, definitely not dead!) Thomas is at a bit of a low point in his life right now, and he’s determined to do whatever it takes to not be at a low point. He’s even willing to use his wife—that’s you, Rose!—to reclaim what’s his. This may all seem a tad dangerous, but if there is anyone who is NOT afraid it’s our gal. Rose is not going to just sit back while her husband—that’s you, Thomas!—has all of the revengeful fun. Rose and Thomas, it sounds like the two of you have a lot of catching up to do, so pardon us while we uncork one of our better bottles of wine right before we snuggle in with your story! This is the third book in Gracie’s Marriage of Convenience series. (Available in paperback, audiobook, and NOOK on July 30.)
The House on Olive Street, by Robyn Carr
Another fan favorite has returned! Four lady writers—Barbara Ann, Beth, Elly, and Sable—are coming together over the death of their friend and fellow writer. They hole up in their late friend’s house, determined to finish her unfinished manuscript. (Now that’s love right there!) They are all understandably sad over the death of their beloved friend, but this is also the perfect opportunity for each of them to take a break from their routines and get some real focus. Barbara Ann, for one, has lost control over every aspect of her life. (Girl, it’s just a phase! You’ve totally got this!) Beth needs to get away from her abusive husband. (Beth, our spare rooms and couches are all yours!) Elly, an academic, is lonely—and tired of living in her self-imposed isolation. (Time for a fun group trip!) As for Sable, she has a whole lotta past issues. (Yoga retreat!) Here’s hoping that each of these four wonderful ladies finds the inner and outer peace she wants and deserves! (Available in paperback and NOOK on July 30.)
Love at First Bark, by Debbie Burns
This story features PUPPIES! Need we say more? Yes? Okay! Mia Chambers has officially hit the career jackpot: She’s an animal portrait painter. Not only that, she also volunteers at an animal shelter with hunky architect Ben Thomas. Now, our gal Mia is actually a widow with a young son, and her late husband was Ben’s best friend. Ben has been in love with Mia for a looooong time, and the timing might finally be right for him to make his long-desired move. He gets his chance when some bozo abandons a bunch of helpless border collies in a nearby park. It’s all hands on deck at the shelter to rescue the dogs, and so Mia and Ben find themselves spending a bit of extra time together. Will Ben reveal his feelings to Mia as they give these beautiful puppies baths? Will Mia admit that she also has the hots for him? And will Ben, Mia, and her son end up living in a sprawling house of Ben’s design with a huge yard – all of which is designed especially to accommodate multiple canines? This is the fourth book in Burns’ Rescue Me series. (Available in paperback and NOOK on July 30.)
