My regular book club members are just lovely, but a gal can fantasize, right? Here are the celebs I’d love to hang and bond over literature with.
This is a no-brainer. Bourdain is smart, witty, and sharp—we know all this. But he’d also bring the best snacks! Plus, his book picks would be all over the place, because he’s a pretty wild guy… you’ve read Kitchen Confidential, right?
His iconic voice and his hilarious outlook on life would surely brighten up club get-togethers. The only catch: I’d have to be careful not to do anything too silly or I’d end up in his next book. I’d be really interested in seeing who the funniest guy ever (in my opinion) thinks the funniest authors are. (I’m assuming all of his book suggestions would be funny. This is my dream, okay?)
The queen of book clubs needs to be there. PERIOD. If I can have anyone I want, I need to have the best book-picker of all time. Besides, she’s Oprah. If Bourdain’s bringing stellar snacks, she’s bringing everything else amazing, a.k.a. her favorite things. EVERYONE GETS A SWAROVSKI BOOKMARK!!!!!
Flashback to the 2011 Holiday Season: on the Today Show, Kaling appeared with Bill Clinton to share holiday book picks. As per usual, Mindy was hilarious and honest. She picked awesome, non “Ph.D-friendly” picks like Terry Richardson’s Lady Gaga book and Tina Fey’s Bossypants, while the former President picked books like Jerusalem, by Simon Sebag Montefiore and Meditations, by Marcus Aurelius. Clinton’s picks were amazing, classic, and likely life-changing books, but Mindy’s down-to-earth picks make her the right choice for my club.
With all the bold personalities in this club, I need someone zen. The Happiness Project author is likely to be a calm, pleasant presence. Besides, we’ll all want to know her secrets and recommendations for get-happy books.
George R.R. Martin
This man is so intimidating, yet wildly fascinating! I’d love to pick his brain and find out what the writer of the flipping Game of Thrones series likes to read. In addition, his outfits are great and I’d look forward to seeing them meeting after meeting.
Who would you invite to your dream book club?
