Delighting in the Trinity is an outstanding contribution to popular, accessible theology. This is a short, but well-packed book that takes the reader into the heart of Christian theology. The doctrine of the Trinity, largely either dismissed as either interesting and unexplainable or not necessary and distracting by many Christians, is instead shown in this work to be the main essence of the Christian life. Reeves, an English scholar and university ministry leader, writes with wit and concise logic that has an emotional as well as a reasoned appeal. The content is laid out, not in a dry way, to just illuminate the persons of the Trinity, but to show how the Trinity's relationship shows itself to be giving and loving and holy. By writing this way, Reeves does not simply deconstruct pieces, but show how the whole is forever ingrained and how God's ultimate object is to demonstrate outwardly the love and holiness he has to his special creation. Good theology can have the effect of making a Christian sing or relax in contemplation. That, I believe is Reeves' goal here, not to simply be an apologist, or show how historical theology works, but show how the the Christian gospel is a better option. The short historical theology vignettes are useful though, and they are written clearly for a wide audience. As a teaching tool, or as a source of understanding the key cornerstone of the Christian life, this is a great book to start and comprehend. This book is highly recommended and worth your time.
Exceptional book. Read many theology books before, but was particularly challenged in my understanding (or lack thereof!) of the trinity. Beautiful descriptions of the Trinity, makes you want to worship!
