About the Author

LELAND CARLSON is the assistant vice president of the Dull Men's Club (the club's highest office). Leland and his good friend Grover Click formed the club when they both were living in New York. The club was a place for them to get away from the city's hustle and bustle, glitz and glam, and instead enjoy ordinary, mundane, everyday things. They didn't need to be 'in' and trendy; it was OK to be dull. Leland is a semi-retired accountant. Now he only does either debits or credits, but never both. He leaves it to someone else to balance the books. He divides his time between England and America.

This is such an unusual and refreshingly humorous book. "Funny" may not be the right word to describe the book because it is really a treasury of real-life ordinary people in Great Britain who have embarked on the most unusual or peculiar hobbies or pastimes such as collecting milk bottles, traffic cones, watching paint dry, compiling a list of traffic roundabouts and park benches, and even a society protecting the venerable apostrophe! The accompanying photographs and illustrations are a treat in themselves. Leland Carlson, an an American living in England, should be encouraged to do a similar book in the U.S., where there is an even more diverse collection of unusual people. A great gift book.
