When I worked at a natural health food store, we had a copy of this book on the shelf. I always encouraged people to give this book as a gift. There is a ton of helpful information, especially if you are just getting started in the "green" ways of living. I recently gave it to one of my good friends for her shower gift and I hope she reads it and learns from it. Even if she simply changes the shampoos and other personal care products for her baby to more natural alternatives and becomes aware of a few ingredients to stay away from - that would be a huge help for her child! Every little step counts.

I bought this book to help me understand what I can do to make my house more green as I suffer from allergies and sensitivities. This book was very good about understanding the basics and is written in more scientific manner than The Honest Life by Jessica Alba which I bought and read as well. I found both to be very helpful and provide steps to make your home safer. I have three small children and worry about what they are exposed to. This book helped me to understand what I can and can not control and provided options for change. Christopher Gavigan is a business partner of Jessica Alba so there is a lot of overlap. I also am brand new to the going green idea/concept so a lot of the information is new to me; however, I can see how someone who has this knowledge might find it redundant. This book is geared more to a novice. I keep this book close by as reference.

Great source for ideas on how to rid your home of toxins. Natural alternatives are widely available these days so there really is no reason to use chemicals in the home. So glad I saw this summary on ParentsDigest, or I might never have found this book.

This is a terrific reference guide to help parents (and, more to the point, anyone seeking a healthier lifestyle) create a safe place for their kids to live, eat and breathe. What I like most about it is that, to a novice, the book doesn't totally overwhelm or preach. It's matter-of-fact and logical material with tips that are totally DO-able. It really is a must-have in every parent's library, even if you don't plan on turning your life upside down and become totally 'green'. Food for thought!
