I must say it is hard to put this book down as it so delightfully shifts gears from chapter to chapter. The heart of the author was most definitely poured out in simplicity while delivering complexed tapestries broken down in themes and catch words that left me astonished and grateful. I felt as if I were in a time machine with the author as he pointed out the road map to success and the ingredients that many ignore or are just too afraid as it relates to experience. Process is a relationship and can be a dangerous one if not guided by experienced masters of the artistry of entrepreneurship. Bishop TD. Jakes seemingly uses this book as a GPS to personal growth development necessary before entrepreneurship can thrive. -Isaiah Drone III
Soar!: Build Your Vision from the Ground Up by T.D. Jakes is book that aims to educate and empower readers on how to transform their vision into a reality, using tried and proven methods. This book is sure to be a helpful starter's guide for aspiring entrepreneurs. The first thing readers must be aware of is the focus of this book. This is not a book that is going to help them discover, develop or write out their life's vision. This book is for those who already have an idea or an understanding of what their vision in life is. Already equipped with a vision, this book will provide valuable information and assistance on how to transform that vision into reality. Readers who may assume that this book is littered with Bible verses and religious undertone are sure to be in for a shock. This book is focused primarily on practical application with a very minimal spiritual undertone. There are sprinkles of biblical examples, but not many biblical principles are explored throughout when discussing the process of launching a business. This book focuses most on helping readers to get their vision off the ground from a practical perspective and success being sure to follow if they do. I have to be completely honest, I was surprised by how little God's role was acknowledged during the process of fulfilling our life's vision. Don't get me wrong, I know that we have a responsibility to act and do the work required for our visions to become a reality, but I firmly believe that God must be our guide throughout the process, especially if we desire to achieve true success. I sincerely thought there would be a chapter or at the very least a paragraph acknowledging this vital principle. However, there wasn't. I appreciate that this book doesn't encourage readers to sit back and wait on God to make their visions a reality, but to own the responsibility of doing the work that is required. For readers who are only interested in the practical steps that must be taken, this book is sure to met their need. For those readers who desire a balanced approach of faith in conjunction with action, this book will likely leave them desiring more. At the very least, that's how it left me feeling. This book provides great guidance for current and aspiring entrepreneurs. Those who have more experience in the world of entrepreneurship may find this book more as a refresher than a guide. Overall, there is plenty of value that can be received from this book, especially for those who are most interested in practical action steps. I received this book free from the publisher through their book review bloggers program and I was not required to write a positive review.
Soar is a step-by-step guide for any new entrepreneur or anyone in the planning stages of a new business. This book is like a free Business 101 course with a bonus of real life expectations, experiences and how to avoid pitfalls. It even includes additional resources for further support after you’ve completed reading. Bishop Jakes’ passionate advice on how to start, increase and maintain a business is heart-felt and priceless. I watch him on TV very often and was expecting this book to be more like his messages, heavy on biblical principles and Bible references. I was surprised and a little disappointed that it was not, but I still enjoyed and found value in his book. Most of the book seems to have been written for general audiences and is based on practical applications. At any rate, many people will be able to benefit from it. This book is like having your own business mentor! I recommend it.
T.D Jakes is a good author and excellent speaker, but SOAR! is a book destined to Christian entrepreneurs, not to self encouragement.
