The Summer 2012 Discover Great New Writers Selections

Dear Reader,

It feels like only a minute ago that we finished our deliberations for the Spring list, our first for 2012, and announced the winners of the 2011 Discover Awards. Yet somehow, the calendar reads May 1, which means it’s time for us to announce the Summer 2012 Discover Great New Writers selections, a mix of fiction, memoir, and reportage by writers our Discover selection committee members believe readers need to know now.

Most of these titles are available now, though release dates for the others are noted below.  (The full season can be viewed on one page here.)

The Age of Miracles by Karen Walker-Thompson (6/26)

The Bellwether Revivals by Benajmin Wood (6/14)

Full Body Burden by Kristen Iverson (6/5)

HHhH by Laurent Binet

I am an Executioner by Rajesh Parameswaran

A Land More Kind Than Home by Wiley Cash

The Legend of Pradeep Mathew by Shehan Kaunatilaka (5/8)

The Lifeboat by Charlotte Rogan

Malarky by Anakana Schofield

Next Stop: A Memoir of Family by Glen Finland

The Spoiler by Annalena McAfee

True by Riikka Pulkkinen

We Heard the Heavens Then by Aria Minu-Sepehr

Wild by Cheryl Strayed

We’ve already begun to cover some of these writers and their books here on the Discover blog, but you’ll see more coverage in the coming days and weeks. And if you’re out and about, please swing by one of the stores to check out the Discover Great New Writers displays. You’ll see our Summer selections as they become available, some titles from Spring 2012, and a few of our greatest hits in paperback — the store displays change monthly.

Cheers, Miwa
