Too many things to love for me to even be able to begin to list. (But I'm going to anyway!) The story is told from multiple points of view, all with a slightly different writing style that is unique to that character's personality and knowledge. Different stories are woven together to add such depth to the characters' relationships and complexity to the situation. The characters are all unique in their abilities, morals, knowledge, and personalities in ways that sometimes clash in a way that makes them and their relationships realistic an believable. Throughout the entire book, you never stop learning new things about the world that the author has created, and it ends with so many questions yet to be answered. The story was spellbinding all the way through, but come about the halfway marks I was NOT able to put the book down. While I typically only read a few chapters at a time, I finished the second half of the book in only 2 nights, and though I was speeding through the pages to see "what happens next," and "how does it end?" I was devastated upon completion that I was unable to see what happens next AFTER it ends. I absolutely recommend this book and this author, and I can't wait for book 2.

As a writer and editor, there are so many aspects of this book that I absolutely admire. There is such complexity in the world building, character building, and relationship building of this story. With multiple writing styles and view points stitched together into one miraculous tale, it's easy to become completely absorbed into this book. Sara A. Noë is a master of descriptive imagery and personal insight, and I can't wait to see where she takes me in the next book.

Let me just start off by telling you that my typical genre for books is crime, mystery, thrillers, suspense. This book definitely falls into the sci-fi, fantasy genre with suspense as well. Sara has a remarkable imagination, and creates a world that is unlike any other. Her characters will find their way into your heart, whether they are heroes or villains. Although it is out of my typical genre of books, I am so glad that I picked this one up! Book 2 comes out in 2020 and I am on the edge of my seat waiting for it to be released! I guess I'm just going to have to read this one again in the meantime! I am definitely hooked!

'A Fallen Hero' presents us with a blend of fantasy and sci-fi in which a modern Earth is beset by beings of great power intent on making humanity a race of slaves. To combat this, some human organizations are making every effort to capture these beings so they may be dissected, studied, and ultimately destroyed. This is the tale of a small group of those kidnapped beings' flight from their captors after some small fortune allowed for their escape. Sara Noe breathes life into her world using a host of lively characters. Each possessing unique motivations, frequent perspective shifts between them allows for a broad view of a complex system where the technology and ingenuity of man is countered by the conjured arms and other supernatural abilities of their new enemies, the kalos. Despite this seemingly distinct division, the main protagonist, Cato, finds himself hunted by both worlds while belonging to neither, as he is one of very few human/kalos hybrids. Newly freed from their captors' torturous bonds, Cato and the few others who managed to escape with him now seek some semblance of peace in a world torn by war.

This book is so good I am reading it for the second time and anxiously awaiting the release of the next book in the series. The way this author builds the characters, every single one, makes me feel like I personally know them. She brings every single segment of this book to life and I feel like I am right there with each character every step of the way. I highly recommend this book.

Ok so I love fantasy stories that have extensive world building, like LOTR. This book has a lot of characters and a lot of layers. This isn't the type of book you can put down for a couple of months and then pick back up again without being lost. But that's why I enjoyed it! I read it over a weekend, and there's so much to unpack that I could read A Fallen Hero multiple times and still find something new I'd missed. I'm really excited that this is the first of a series! I think there's a lot of potential for even more in-depth world building as the series develops, and I'm always super pumped to discover new authors. I got this book as a Christmas present and now I'm anxiously waiting for Phantom's Mask (Book 2) to come out! Also following this author on social media now (:
