With that title I expected this story to be a whole lot funnier than it is.  Once starting it however I found I couldn’t put this book down until it was done. It was fun watching Deanna find herself and grow as a psychic. Now I want to see where Deanna goes from here.  Does she hook up with Greg? John the Judge? Someone else?  This story has a world of well built characters and a good mystery, it is fast paced and well written. This book was previously published as I’m Okay, You’re Dead by Cheryl Dragon but has been updated and revised.  I think the author made the correct choice in publishing this under a different pen name as this story contains very little of the heat that Cheryl Dragon is known for.

An interesting story line, but it could have used more depth on character development and the story drags at times. From the title (and the fact the the ARC group I received this book from called it a cozy mystery), I expected a cozy mystery with some humor. I found nothing at all that I would consider humorous and I don't want to give spoilers, but you find out early that the victims are little girls. There is absolutely nothing cozy about a child killer. All in all, the story has potential, but the story strays too much for my taste and there were too many minor characters mentioned without clarification that just distracted from the plot. I understand that this book is probably meant as mostly an introduction to the heroine for this series, but I couldn't connect with her enough to want to know much more. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

Enjoyed reading this book. Characters are great, lots of laughter and it was hard to put down. Hope there will be many more books to follow.

I really like this type of Paranormal story. It is a cozy mystery set in New Orleans. New Orleans is the perfect place for a psychic to fit in and not be viewed as crazy. I mean, the city is known for eccentricity! I loved all the characters in this story. They are all quirky, decent people with good hearts. A psychic psychologist. A drag queen. An ex-priest. A trophy wife. An old-money family. Those are just the living people. The ghosts are equally quirky. And the mansion is quite interesting. I really enjoyed the humor. It helped keep the plot from becoming too dark. So often, humor feels contrived but in this book it flows naturally. I thoroughly enjoyed this story. It grabbed my attention and held it from beginning to end. The plot flowed smoothly from one scene to the next and the pace was just right. I highly recommend reading Deanna Oscar Paranormal Mysteries, starting with this book.

4.5 Entertaining Stars Favorite Quotes: “I really didn’t understand what the big deal was.  Blood didn’t mean much in Chicago unless you were related to Oprah or Al Capone.” “The living are much more trouble than the dead, as a group.  Their expectations and demands can be less than reasonable.  However, they are a part of the world and will likely require some of your time.” “Great, Heaven had a Prime Directive.  My youngest brother was a Star Trek addict so I was well versed in the Federation’s noninterference policy.  I just never expected spirits had a similar code of conduct.” “For now, I needed to ignore the fact that I had been on the news in New Orleans.  I just hoped it didn’t get on America’s Most Wanted.  Dad was always on the lookout for a chance to turn in one of the neighbors.  I couldn’t deal with that yet.” “I left Greg in the company of the queens.  Hopefully they’d have him squirming by the time I got back.  I still had a little passive-aggressive streak.” My Review: Despite the  cheesy title – this was a well-written and entertaining read.  The story line was clever, unique, well plotted, and involving.  Ms. Dragon’s characters are smart, sassy, funny, and highly unusual, yet all quite likable, well - except for the homicidal ones.  The writing was crisp, humorous, and highly enjoyable.  I wanted something light and refreshing and found this book to be just what I needed, and considerably better than what I was expecting.  This is my first time reading CC Dragon, and I plan to haunt her listings like a besotted fan-girling ghost as I would like to keep up with Deanna Oscar and her adventures in the Big Easy.
