I found the start hard to get into, but it didn’t take long for the story’s momentum to pick up pace and draw me in. Jessica Lauryn’s writing style has a flair for the dramatic which is reflected in the intrigue and suspense that captures your imagination and leaves you guessing at what is to come next. The sea change that Jessica’s heroine allows herself is unexpected. It is inspiring enough to bring hope to anyone who has thought about a career move but been too scared to make it. The happy ever after ending plays on your sensibility and melts your heart.

This is a story about a young, talented singer, Alicia Coleman, who sings exclusively for Raybourn Theater. She is driven to reach the top and has succeeded. Forces around her, people from the theater who have their own agenda and other unbalanced souls, come crashing down on Alicia with a crack on the head, giving her amnesia. Her agent, and on-again-off-again boyfriend rescues her from the attacker. Would he have stopped with hitting her over the head and done worse? Nick Lancaster is a wary guy, he trusts no one at this point. He more or less abducts Alicia, running off to someplace secluded to protect her. When he finds she has amnesia, he uses it to his advantage. This must be a guy thing! Alicia didn’t know who to trust when she becomes conscious. Was Nick the bad guy? Should she escape or trust him? Why won't he tell her of her past, not even her name? As she slowly regains her memories, she only has more questions. If I had paid more attention to the prologue, I probably would have started weaving pieces of the unfolding story together more quickly. As it was, it took me a while to figure it all out, which isn’t necessarily bad. As it was, chapter one is quite the hook. From its textured writing, the scene of pain and terror felt very real as well as creating a bit of an edge to what transpires. The tale tells of two people who are terribly attracted to each other, but leery of each other for different reasons. I enjoyed the complexity of both personalities--their arguments, and bantering in dialog. As the story unfolds the suspense that the attacker could come calling again, that the situation would end bad put a nice spin on Alicia’s recovery. Will she regain her memory in time to be able to identify her attacker? After the storm, comes the sun. This rocky, suspenseful romance ends in a very satisfying way.

A fan of Jessica Lauryn's debut series, The Pinnacles of Power, I was eager to read A Passionate Play. What a treat! This amnesia themed-romance tells the story of Rabourn Theater's star actress Alicia Coleman, the man she loves, her agent Nick Lancaster, and Alicia's dangerous stalker, who prompts Nick to harbor Alicia at his parents summer home, out of fear that his girlfriend may be attacked a second time. But when Alicia wakes up, he realizes that the blow to the head that she took has wiped out her memory. And that's only the start of their troubles! A Passionate Play has a great mix of both sweet and suspenseful moments. The fire between Nick and Alicia lights up the pages and I was excited to solve the mystery right along with them, discovering who Alicia's mysterious stalker is. Ms. Lauryn also introduced an interesting duo in her side characters, Alicia's cousin Hannah and Rabourn Theater's stage director Evan Masters. I can't wait to see how things play out between the two of them in An Amorous Dance!

“A Passionate Play” held my interest from the very first page. The Author is an imaginary writer that showcase great imagery for the reader. The main character, Alicia Coleman, is very lifelike and shows great strength in the face of much turmoil. The story pulled me in and I kept turning the pages. This was my first read by Jessica Lauryn and I wasn't disappointed. The book was interesting from page one to the last page. Now I looking forward to reading another Jessica Lauryn's novel.

From beginning to end, A Passionate Play was full of suspense that kept you on pins and needles. Who had hurt Alicia? What is Nick hiding? And how does the prologue really play into it all? The characters are easy to love and the story really flows. I enjoyed the banter between Nick and Alicia and the sweet and flirty moments they shared. All in all, this was a fun read!!!

This is my first time reading a book by this author. Was there suspense? Yes. Was there anticipation when reading? Yes. Romance? Yes. Did I chuckle? Yes. The best part for me, is when the damsel in distress actually saves the hero with an apple (don't want to give too much away though). Therefore, without saying too much and spoil the fun, all in it was well crafted and I enjoyed it.
