I've read the previous 18 books in this series and expect to read the remaining Pitt books. By the way, reading them on my NOOK now and loving it! This book is quintessential Anne Perry. I love the non-CSI methodology Pitt must use to resolve crimes. And...I am happy Tellman is becoming more human; Gracie would not deserve any less! I recommend these books if you like mystery, Victorian Era, good research, and characters with continuity.

Having never read an Anne Perry mystery before yesterday, I was happily surprised at the interesting read. Her Victorian twist on the usual mystery writing is what caught my attention and held my attention. I am usually quick with figuring out whodunits, but this held me to the end with its' twists and turns! I found it a bit difficult to keep track of all the various English characters, however that was also part of the fun and intrigue.

Thomas Pitt is called out at the crack of dawn to Colonel Ballantine's home because a dead body has been found on his front steps. The story evolves into a blackmail of a circle of friends from a gentlemen's club. It's all very Victorian. I particularly like Tillman's growing affection for Gracie, the Pitt's housekeeper.

I was stumpted up until the end! I have read and enjoyed all the previous AP Charlotte & Thomas P novels. This one was excellent. The characters are wonderful. About the time I am thinking "Guess they will request a blood test or check for finger prints", I realize this did not exist in the Victorian Era and they have to rely on intuition, deduction, and insight to prove the case. Bedford Square, I would consider, one of AP's best.
