Maybe I’m old-fashioned but I believe werewolves, vampires and other supernatural creations should be scary. I really don’t get the whole sparkly-monsters-with-consciences trend. Fortunately, author Glenn Rolfe appears to agree with me. His monsters are always scary as hell and those that lurk, lunge, attack and savage throughout the pages of his latest novel – Blood and Rain – are no exception. Gilson Creek is a quiet, safe, rural community. It’s summer time and, to paraphrase the song, the living should be easy. But out of the shadows comes a terrifying reminder that nowhere is entirely safe. An ancient horror is reawakening and flexing its deadly claws. With a plot that keeps you awake long into the deep recesses of the night and characters whose all-too-real struggles and fears leap off the pages, Blood and Rain is a surefire winner – the latest in a run of excellent stories from this exciting new voice in horror.
