Wow, I seem to be on roll with some hardcore backstories lately. In this case, Driver and Tam are both horribly damaged from their pasts, which in turn makes one feel undeserving of love or happiness, and the other was so horrifically abused that he is jaded and untrusting. This third installment of the Sassy Boyz pulled out all the stops and created a sad world where two men struggle to learn to put their respective pasts to rest and take a chance on a future with each other. Tam is the creative mind behind the sexy Sassy Boyz routines. Dance is what comes naturally to him, and also keeps him out of his own head. With the boys still looking for a new club to perform in, they need to be on their best game and Tam gives them the stuff to launch them back into the spotlight. These guys are too awesome to not make it, and I was glad that they FINALLY get back on stage. Driver is a man living in self-imposed prison of his own making. The only surviving member of his immediate family from an accident that he takes full, but unnecessary blame. Driver and Tam have incredible chemistry but Driver needs to accept that Tam is his for the taking, and Tam has to accept that Driver is not one of the men in his past that hurt him. These two have so much going on that you want to wrap them both in bubble wrap and protect them from the cruel world. Fortunately, they get there on their own. It wasn’t easy, it wasn’t fast, and it wasn’t pretty, but they make it and in the end the reader is left content that yet another Sassy Boy found his happily ever after.

Brave & Beautiful by Elizabeth Varlet is book three in her Sassy Boyz series, and the first one I’ve read by this author. I was blown away by this quick-paced novel that clutches at your heartstrings and brings to life some charming boys to fall in love with. Driver is a drifter. When his friend asks him to housesit, he’s not sure how long he’ll stay especially with his demons clawing at him from the outside in. That’s when he meets Tam. Tam is a dancer, and he’s trying to land his next gig with his group, Sassy Boyz. He runs into Driver one night and his whole world shifts. But there’s a lot of pain bottled within Tam and the last thing he needs is a man exploding through his defenses. These pages were seeped in emotion. I spent so much of this book clutching my heart and even more reading through a watery smile. Tam has so much vulnerability to him, but there’s strength there too. Dance has gotten him through a lot and his interaction with the other Sassy Boyz stole the show. Then there’s Driver. Tattooed and motorcycle riding hotness, but he can’t settle down and he doesn’t want to. Tam comes into his life like a rocket, and Driver has to decide to let Tam in or shore up his defenses. I was pretty frustrated through the second half, however. There was a bit too much back and forth and I wanted more good moments because these two were just heart wrenching together. The ending dragged a bit too, but overall? I was blown away by the depths of passion explored. I’m going to pick up the rest in this series as soon as possible. I was never less than one hundred percent invested, and I can’t wait to see where Ms. Varlet takes readers next. 4 stars!
