Overview

Have you ever wondered why you were born where you were born? Why you received the education and training that you were privileged to receive? Why you have experienced all that you have experienced to date in your life? I don’t dwell on those questions, but I must admit that occasionally these thoughts come across my mind and settle in for a while.

You are now holding what I believe is the continuing answer to these questions for my life. These Insights allow me (and challenge me) to provide solid teaching and training to help each of us become excellent in the marketplace. To develop each Insight, I draw on my past education and training, my work experiences in Fortune 500 companies and small, family-owned businesses, and the wisdom I gain from reading what others have written (the Index lists the authors whose works I reference).

In addition I am blessed to be able to draw upon biblical principles that I’ve learned from years of listening to wonderful teaching and preaching from God’s Word, Bible studies that I’ve participated in, discussions with fellow believers, meetings sponsored by the Fellowship of Companies for Christ International—the list goes on and on.

These Insights represent, in a small way, the education that I desire to provide to business students at Indiana Wesleyan University: a business education that is of equal rigor and excellence as that offered in any secular business school in the world coupled with something that secular business professors cannot offer—how to view the marketplace from a biblical point of view, to think Christianly about being a business professional. The Scriptures used in the Insights are not merely references. I truly believe that the Bible is the final authority on all that we say and do in the world of business. We just need to be open and obedient to its enlightenment.

It is my sincere desire that you will be both blessed and challenged by these Insights. Of course, I am responsible for any errors contained herein. I am very grateful for all of the authors whose works I reference throughout. The credit for any and all good that may result from these musings belongs to our gracious Heavenly Father.
