There are good cops, there are bad cops, and then there's Bullitt. McQueen gives a wonderful performance as Lt. Frank Bullitt. For his own good Walter Chalmers(Robert Vaughn) wants Jonny Ross to testify against his mob buddies. So he assigned the best cop on the force, Bullitt, to watch over him and keep him alive. But someone else has other plans and Jonny Ross ends up in the hospital, critically wounded. Chalmers, just wanting to blame someone, tells Bullitt that it is his fault, and that he could prove negliegence on Bullitt's part. Bullitt decides to take matters into his own hands, not caring if he stays with in the rules or not, and go after his slim leads. One of these leads ends up as, I still think, the best car chase in history. A great movie for all. I like the dvd edition best because it has the better picture quality and sound. Steve McQueen is a great actor and this movie was one of his best. Steve McQueen will always be known as the King of Cool and this movie, a classic!

The greatest chase scene ever produced in a movie. Great stars good story. Ford releases this Mustang every 10 years and only in those years do they use that color green.

Despite the gaudy pasiey print pajamas, this is McQueen style and cool all the way! A film of tight suspense featuring the first great cinematic car chase. It would spawn countless others of the Phil D'Antoni school of speed. Why didn't Don Gordon become a bigger star?

The movie that made MCQueen, singlehandedly, an international star.A lot can be said for the direction, cinematography, music score, and unparalleled car chase sequence...never mind the confusing storyline, what makes this picture work and sets it apart from all other cop films is the mood of the film is set by the MCQueen presence. Whenever on screen your eyes are glued to him, not taking anything away from Ms.Bisset's charms. Police everywhere emulated his turtleneck look, when this film was released, and even today, a '68 Mustang fastback and San Francisco seem synonymous. Even if your taste doesn't salivate for cop films this is the one to see.
