I was lucky enough to receive an advanced copy. I really enjoyed this book. How could I was written by one of my favorite authors, Lisa Wingate! This is the third book in the Moses Lake Series, although each book stands on its own. This is the story of a young newlywed couple who move from Washington D.C. to Moses Lake, Texas. The job comes with a house full of critters and a mystery that has been unsolved for far too many years. If you enjoy a book mixed with mystery, romance and learning how to trust in new friends this the book for you!

I'll be upfront, I have loved every one of Lisa's books I've read. I got this copy free so I could read and promote it. That said I would be giving a vavorable review even if that wer not the case. The slightly fish out of water aspect with Mallory was believable to me. The rushed marriage some may not care for, but it fit with the story. I highly recommend it.

There are times when life is a cursor on a blank page, blinking in a rhythm a bit like an electronic heartbeat, tapping out a question in three little words. What- Comes- Next? Time and space and life wait for an answer. A blank page is an ocean of possibilities. So begins Lisa Wingate's exciting new book, Firefly Island. Daniel, Mallory and Nick leave for an unforgettable journey from the DC area to beautiful Moses Lake, Texas. Daniel leaves his job as a USDA biochemist to work for a mysterious and wealthy Texan named Jack West. Jack has secrets. He has a ranch with thousands of acres where he needs Daniel's expertise to help develop new and better crops under extreme conditions. The young boy, Nick, and Jack's dog Pecos become inseparable friends. The Frontier Woman and Al keep the reader looking forward to their next venture. As in all Lisa Wingate's books, Firefly Island has many lessons about life. "The journey between what you once were and who you are now becoming is where the dance of life really takes place, by Barbara DeAngelis," is one example. Firefly Island is an outstanding and exciting book. I have read it twice and I highly recommend Firefly Island!

I received a review copy of this book from the author and love the book. Firefly Island has it all. Wingate's round and engaging characters that live in your heart, romance, a deep mystery with some Texas issues, and lots of interesting setting details about life on an isolated, lakeside ranch. It's interesting also that Mallory delves into the world of blogging to stave off lonliness as she misses her career, family, and friends. Wingate has a big winner here to rival Blue Moon Bay, which was on Booklist's top 10 reads for 2012. Don't miss this.

A moving and memorable story... Mallory Hale, a Capitol Hill professional, abandons her career, marries a single dad—handsome, environmental researcher, Daniel Everson, and moves to the middle of nowhere. Moses Lake, Texas is a rural setting filled with diverse people, a myriad of critters and varmits, and more mystery than she can shake a stick at! The rumors of murder and mystery of Firefly Island has everybody whispering. I enjoyed Firefly Island. Though the mystery is captivating, the wonderful relationships Mallory makes with the unconventional people of Moses Lake are what kept me turning the pages—touching, funny, and memorable moments that will stay with me for some time. Monday, February 25, 2013 Firefly Island by Lisa Wingate, ©2013 SOMETIMES LOVE TAKES YOU ON AN ADVENTURE COMPLETELY OFF THE MAP Mallory Hale's life quickly veers off course when she falls hopelessly in love. After a whirlwind romance, Mallory finds herself leaving the bustle and action of Capitol Hill for the remote town of Moses Lake, Texas--with husband, stepson, and a U-Haul in tow. A sweet, mishap-filled journey into marriage, motherhood, and ranch living ensues, and Mallory is filled with both the wonderment of love and the insecurities of change. But what she can't shake is the unease she feels around her husband's new boss, Jack West. Jack's presence--and his mysterious past--set her on edge, and when hints of a scandal emerge, Mallory finds herself seeking answers . . . and comes to realize that the middle-of-nowhere home she wasn't sure she wanted is the very place she'll risk everything to save. My Review I met his gaze, tumbled in, and saw the future. Not in the crisp clarity of photos--because I couldn't picture this over-the-rainbow life he was describing, or me in it--but in shades of color. The soft grays of mornings, the muted rose and violet of sunsets, the stark, blinding yellows and whites of middays. I saw holidays and seasons and years. Growing up, growing outward, growing old. I didn't want to live one year, one season, one day without Daniel and Nick. --Mallory Firefly Island, 43 "Two," you ask? One is a scrumptious little boy (he wouldn't like me to tell you that, likely) who has won my heart too. That would be Nick. His daddy's name is Daniel. Onward to the shores of Moses Lake, Texas ~*~ Firefly Island is ahead! Leaving Mallory's family, large family, they have adventures traveling to their Texas goal. On their new start, they've lived through this, they can live through anything. Everyday little detours that seem what-can-happen-next, at the time. Something new I have learned this year: if you turn your radio up while the deer are at the side of the road eating the fresh growth from the runoff moisture from the road, their ears will perk up and they won't move. I've seen it! Also, ALL the deer alongside the road when it is dark and they are munching! Anyway, they get through the deer, the overheated A/C from earlier in the day, and they see the lights of the lake. Almost there! Mallory Hale Everson has a new life and adventure ahead of her. Will she cave or live it?? An unexpected tingle rushed over my skin as we descended a small hill into the utter darkness, Moses Lake dipping out of sight. An aura of romance and danger simmered through me like a trail of smoke, scented with an intriguing fragrance I couldn't quite place. --Mallory Ibid, 65 Intriguing and unsure, join Mallory's life spread out before her as she becomes part of this Moses Lake adventure ~ drawing her, keeping her ~ safe. After reading the first eight chapters, I am mysteriously wanting to get to the end... right then! I have met the intriguing people from books 1 and 2, which I haven't read, and am ready for them to come alongside ~ as friends and rescuers. This is getting good. In chapter 9, they are getting ready for a dip in the lake. They being Mallory joining Daniel and Nick down at the water after a much needed nap. I am glad they are getting refreshed for the story as they bring me along. And... are you ready, they have only been here for one night and one day. Good build up. Solid story. Come along. Here we go, joining their adventure(s). What I especially like about Firefly Island, is the wisdom given within. So much to tweak from, in our own lives. Balances. Facing the unknown and making it our own. Mallory learns to enjoy where she is, leaving behind where she has been. What is new, moving from what has been. I like how she expresses herself, recognizing the change that is occurring. Realizing love that is real, not subjective. Doing her part, rather than self-pity in feeling she has been left behind. We each have a choice to follow the path stretching out before us, just for us. Jeremiah 29:11; "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Truth for all times. Intrigue. Firefly Island. Uncovering truth and trust. I read all but about 35 pages, only because I ran out of day. The twists and turns near the end were surprising. They have forever friends. I hope there is one more Moses Lake, Texas, book! I have read every book Lisa Wingate has written, beginning with her "Tending Roses" series. Lisa is an amazing story teller. She takes you to places you'd love to be, and introduces you to characters you wish you knew! If you are already a Wingate fan, read this one! You won't be disappointed. If you haven't read one of Lisa's books before, read this one, and you will be a fan!! I surely hope there is a sequel coming...I need to know what happens with Al and Jack!

Awesome book 372 pages of awesomeness!! Lisa Wingate has once again used her God-given talent to combine faith, humor, and intrigue to grab you and draw you in. Part love story part mystery her newest book, Firefly Island, the third in her Moses Lake series, is an excellent read. Lisa's prowess with descriptive details brings the town and residents to life. Mallory is a career DC woman, taken out of her element and deposited in small town Texas. She leaves behind the big city politics that she loves only to find out that small town politics can be just as exciting. She realizes that she has been brought to Moses Lake to make a difference and make difference she does!

This book seems a little different from the normal writing that I have read from Lisa. It combines romance, some real life and the awakening that this young woman Mallory about herself and a little bit of suspense. It teaches us to not be so quick to pass judgement on people we dont know, and that we need to keep our eyes and hearts open to new experiences and new people, God works in funny ways...teaching us something at every turn!

There are times after reading a couple of chapters of a book you wonder if it will be worth your time to finish it. Other books take a while but will eventually pay off in good use of your time. However, not so with any Lisa Wingate story, and "Firefly Island" is no different. As with all of her books, one is immediately drawn into the story and if a reader is anything like me, will they be able to 'experience' the actual personality of each character, completely be in the setting of a warm, woodsy place, a clear brook, or a horrendous storm. Lisa's description of the scents and smells are so realistic your nose can wrinkle up when you read about a cow pasture. Mallory and Daniel fell in love at first sight and within a month of their meeting she became a wife, a step-mom and a Texan all at the same time. The ramshackle house provided by Daniel's boss is infested with roaches, rodents and who knows what else. It is a nightmare and it is not long before Mallory wonders if she made the biggest mistake of her life. She is befriended by some unusual characters and as we all know, different folks serve different needs in our life and some close, even if odd, friendships develop. There is much gossip about Daniel's new boss, Jack West, even going as far as implying that he had something to do with the death of one wife and their son. Later on, Mason West shows up after being estranged from his father for years. Soon thereafter, Jack West has a near death experience and in a coma. With more curiosity and suspicion surrounding his visit and his father's 'accident', Mallory and Al (girl neighbor) are more determined than ever to find out just what is going on at Firefly Island. I do admit, however, that my suspicions were confirmed about what Mason was trying to do, prior to the end of the Story. Lisa Wingate's books are a joy to read and never disappoint. I love the way characters from previous books are woven into the next story, even if in a small way. And the Wall of Wisdom makes it's appearance once again. I think you might enjoy this book as much as I did.

I just finished this book. Once I got past the first couple pages I was totally hooked. A book worth reading. It tells a nice story of how a relationship develops and evolves with a mystery thrown in. Enjoy!

Check out the full review at Kritters Ramblings With a hook at the beginning that shows a bit from the future, the reader is quickly taken into the past and through the entire story to find out how this young woman goes from a single lady working in DC to a married woman in rural Texas. From the beginning, I was rooting for Mallory and wanted to know not only where she was going to end up but how she would get there.

Firefly Island was the first Lisa Wingate book I have had the pleasure of reading and will not be the last. I loved Mallory and Daniel's love story. What comes next? Total culture shock. You will have to read this highly entertaining book yourself to find out why. I have been in situations similar to Mallory, so found myself laughing out loud many times. I especially loved the growing relationship between Mallory and Nick. God does not take long to soften Mallory's heart to Nick. You will find Firefly Island a highly entertaining romance with a few mysteries to keep you guessing. Firefly Island is book #3 in the Moses Lake Series. I give it 4 out of 5 stars. I received the book from Bethany House Publishing for my honest review. I was not paid in any way.

Mallory Hale is making a life for herself in her way. Instead of resting on her dad's name and fame, Mallory is working her way up the ladder in Washington DC. Things change on a fateful day when she runs into a handsome stranger. Soon Mallory finds herself doing the unexpected- rushing to marry, becoming a step-mom, and packing it all up to move to a remote town in Texas. Her husband's new boss is a strange man with a mysterious past. When the boss's son comes to town, things get even stranger. Mallory will find herself on the adventure of a lifetime without even realizing. This book took some interesting turns I didn't see. I was really unsure of where book was going really as the romance was very quick. The author does a really good job of making you feel Mallory. The loneliness of being in a new town combined with a small town where everyone knows each other can be particularly hard. Mallory is so different from everyone else in Moses Lake. You are able to really feel how alone she truly is in the beginning. I also like that Mallory's preconceived notions were really challenged. She clearly felt she was above all the people in town when in actuality she needed them more than anything. I particularly enjoyed Mallory's neighbor Al. She was a no-nonsense kind of girl with her own past. She was a fun character. The book takes a long, languishing path to it's end. At times I almost felt it was on the verge of dragging some, but the author seemed to manage to avoid that for the most part. I also really loved all the quotes at the beginnings of the chapters. There were some great things written there that I really took to heart. At the heart of this book is the idea that God uses each of us in specific ways we may never quite understand. Each small thing can add up to one amazing thing. I loved that idea and the way it was presented in the book. The ending I both managed to guess and not see coming. Overall I enjoyed this book. It was a great slice of small town life and all the good and bad that goes with it. Book provided for review.

This book is close to the best one I have ever read of Lisa Wingates. It was written very smooth & did not have to re-read anything to try and catch the meaning. It is written so well that it made me believe the people were actually real. Well done.

Firefly Island by Lisa Wingate brings her readers back to the charming Moses Lake, Texas. Mallory Hale never expected to fall hopelessly in love with Daniel and his three-and-a-half year old son. After a whirlwind romance and wedding, Mallory finds herself saying goodbye to her exciting life in Capitol Hill and relocating to the remote town of Moses Lake. Daniel has accepted a new position and his boss, Jack West is a man of mystery and… possibly scandal. Mallory learns to embrace ranch living while trying to adapt to Daniel’s less than perfect long hours at the lab. She begins to blog about her experiences and then decides to solve the mystery of Jack’s missing family. Mallory uses her investigative skills to dig into Jack’s past and possibly finds more than she wants when his mostly absent son shows up in Jack’s life again. Something is wrong and Mallory wants to get to the bottom of it. This is a story about marriage, instant motherhood and finding a place to belong. I love the quotes from the "Wall of Wisdom"---they're great! You’re going to love this one!!! I received a free copy of this book from Bethany House for my honest review. The opinions expressed here are my own.

Charming return visit to Moses Lake. I have listened to four books on tape by Lisa Wingate driving to and from work courtesy of my local library, but this is the first of her books that I have actually read. Being a lover of the printed word, I have to say this is a more satisfying experience. Her prose create vivid word pictures about a new bride trying to cope with a move to a small Texas town. When we first meet Mallory, she is a Congressional aide. She has been raised in the shadow of Washington power brokers, her father being a successful lobbyist. She has spent time working in foreign embassies and is very content with her friends, her life, and her single status. She meets Daniel, a scientist who wants to change the world and is soon married, a stepmother, and on her way to the small town of Moses Lake. Upon arrival in Moses Lake, Mallory, the city-girl promptly finds herself confronting mice, scorpions, an unsympathetic boss, and a husband who works long hours. She is befriended by the local "goat lady" ,with a mysterious past, and the teacher who is trying to make a real difference in the lives of underprivileged children. She also becomes embroiled in a mystery on Firefly Island. I particularly liked the development of the relationship with Nick, her three year old stepson. I would like to have seen a little more depth in her relationship with her husband. I am not sure the whole idea of a one man science lab working to produce genetically modified crops to feed the world, is very believable. Overall, this was a very satisfying read. I received this book from Bethany House and was not required to give a favorable review.

Mallory is destined for Daniel from the start. Within the first pages of Lisa Wingate’s Firefly Island they literally collide – a move that seems to slightly bump everything else in to place (or maybe out!). While she may have been prepared for destination Daniel Everson Mallory didn’t realize that a geographical destination (or shall we say, relocation) was right on her heels, too. One whirlwind romance, one U-Haul trailer, and one doozy of a ride later, suddenly Mrs. Mallory Everson finds herself in Moses Lake, Texas – with the two men she’d cross the ocean (or in this case, the barren plains) for… new husband Daniel, and Nick – his precious little boy. The adventure that ensues is definitely more that she planned. But there’s more going on beneath the surface in Moses Lake than what meets the eye, and Mallory may just find herself smack dab in the middle of it. Romance. Mystery. Friendship. Loyalty. Ms. Wingate’s tale of small town Texas is one of a kind. Lisa Wingate’s novel is a lovely read. The cowgirl in me loved the pictures of a sun-scorched Texas earth and tales of Pecos the dog. Rather newly married myself, I was encouraged by Mallory and Daniel’s new relationship – the hiccups and joys along the way. I fell in love with Al – next door neighbor and cowgirl extraordinaire. The mystery of Firefly Island was always simmering in the background, pieces revealed a little at a time… the telltale sign of a good read. A perfect mix of casual reading and suspense, I enjoyed every page of Firefly Island. I think you will, too.

Firefly Island by Lisa Wingate Moses Lake, Texas Book 3 Unlike her four older, married sisters, Mallory Hale wanted to be independent and make her own decisions. Not catering to the wants and needs of a husband. She was working in DC at The Hill, making her own path in the political world, like her dad. The day she ran into Daniel Webster Everson, literally, changed her life and it quickly became an adventure. The story is told from Mallory's view. A city girl born and raised, used to the trappings and business of DC, who finds herself in the quiet town of Moses Lake, Texas. The most exciting store being a Walmart the next town over. The reader follows along as she deals with creepy crawly critters, becoming a mom, a wife and a frontier woman. She meets unique people from the small town and faces the fact that she is snobbish from her upbringing. Rumors about her husband’s boss has her wanting to flee back to the world she knows. There were so many great twists and turns in this book. People being more than they seemed at first glance. And lessons of life, how one person can really make a difference in peoples lives. **Received Through Bethany House Publishers for review

Thirty-four year old congressional staffer Mallory Hale’s life veers unexpectedly off course when she falls hopelessly in love with Daniel Everson on the capitol steps. After a whirlwind romance, Mallory finds herself leaving the bustle of Capitol Hill for the remote town of Moses Lake, Texas, with Daniel and three year old stepson Nick. A sweet, mishap-filled journey into marriage, motherhood, and ranch living ensues. But despite the adventure of her new life, she soon discovers that even small towns have secrets. When hints of a scandal emerge, Mallory comes to realize that this middle-of-nowhere home—the one she wasn’t sure she wanted—is the very place she’ll risk everything to save. Firefly Island is a delightful Christian Fiction novel filled with romance, faith and intriguing mystery. In the third book of The Shores of Moses Lake Series, author Lisa Wingate weaves an engaging tale written in the first person narrative told by the sassy Mallory Hale-Everson, who takes the reader along for the ride as her adventures into marriage, motherhood and ranch living in the small Texas town of Moses Lake is filled with madcap mishaps, political corruption, intrigue and mystery. The author has created a storyline that has interwoven themes of community, faith, love and friendship running throughout the story. I love the mishaps Mallory finds herself in (rodents, ants, and a dilapidated house) as she transforms from a single city woman to a stay-at-home country mom. The mystery and secrets surrounding the Moses Lake community, with its interesting characters who can be found at the bait shop or riding around in the lake under the cover of night to help Mallory ferret out the clues in order to find out what's hiding on Firefly Island, simply draws the reader in, you can't help but go along for the ride. I loved Mallory, she holds nothing back which makes her struggles and failures realistic and relatable. She is adapting to marriage, motherhood, a new town, a new job and a whole new way of life all at once. I think everyone can relate to Mallory and the changes that she endured when she embarked on her new life, and her humorous adventures into the ordinary everyday life in Moses Lake was very entertaining. With a quirky cast of characters; engaging dialogue and interactions; a richly descriptive setting (Washington DC and Moses Lake / Fire Island, Texas); and a captivating storyline that has a wonderful mixture of humor, sweet romance, intriguing mystery, and interwoven thought-provoking messages, Firefly Island is an enjoyable story that leaves the reader wanting more!

Mallory Hale, has led a very exciting and glamorous life as a Congressional staffer. She has traveled, and is enjoying what she is doing, and at 34 has not found Mr right. That is until he is literally dumped in her lap, well, she drops all her stack of papers and Daniel Everson helps pick the up. She is Smitten, in one meeting! When Daniels life is suddenly changed with a new job offer in Texas...they know they are meant for each other, and decide to marry and make a family of three. Daniel has a precocious 3 1/3 year old son, Nick. Nick is so adorable, and you will fall in love with him. Daniels boss Jack West, leaves Mallory with uneasy feelings. Things are very different at Moses Lake TX...almost sounded like a resort...not! Wait until you see the house and experience living in it with them. There are other loveable characters in this book, and they seem to be there for those in need, even when they disagree. Enjoy your visits at the Waterbird Cafe, and Mallory's experience as a Mother of a little boy! What starts out as a love story, ends up being also a big mystery! I found this book to be a very quick read, and I just had to find out what happens next. I received this book through the Litfuse Blog Tours Program, and was not required to give a positive review.
