How many of us have ever been to a nursing home� or anywhere in our lives�and noticed the actions of some of the elderly? Aside from just being old they have problems remembering recent events. They might repeat the same conversation several times in the span of a few minutes. They seem disoriented and inattentive. On top of all this they might also have medical issues. We often just turn our heads away, not ever imagining that such a condition could ever happen to our own parents, relatives or friends, much less ourselves. The truth of the matter is that Dementia can afflict anyone. From the poorest IQ�s to college professors. From people in their mid-forties to seniors in their eighties. But if it should somehow make its way into our own personal social environment�a mother, a brother, a best friend�
then it becomes our turn for a supportive course of action. It is our responses to their conversations, abilities, and need for care that could make a positive difference in the quality of life�for both them and ourselves. This is the final chapter in the life history of my Mom. My wife and I wish you good fortune in your endeavors and hope you will benefit from our experience and learned discipline.
