Hallowed Ground is a clever Dark Fiction take on a Western that simply crackles with supernatural energy and bristles with Frontier spirit. This is a time when Faith was strong, Whiskey was plentiful, morals kept communities together and wrongdoers found themselves face down in the nearest gulch with snakes for company. When The Deacon - a mysterious preacher with malevolent intent - sets up camp near Rookwood with his motley crew of rescued, deformed souls, trouble visits the small town. He hurtles towards his dark destiny that seeks to devour the whole Town for his own ends. For Provender Creed, a simple but thoughtful man, things will never be the same. He alone can see through the spell cast upon his fellow townspeople, and it leads him to his own destiny. For Mariah - reborn from the ashes of a deal with the Devil - the journey to discover who she is, was and will be begins. Set against this are a colourful array of characters - a gifted dwarf artist, the very first scorned woman and her demonic henchmen, a trio of cackling witches, a lonely women bereft of the gift of child, a fast-shooting Sheriff who smells trouble, an eight-fingered piano player, and the powerful and relentless Balthazar. With snappy action, plenty of preaching, several astounding miracles, and more than a splash of the battles of the divine - Hallowed Ground brings the varied talents of these two writers together to create a masterful tale that will keep you gripped right to its impressively epic conclusion

Wilson and Savile deliver a fabulous tale of risk, redemption, and restoration in this creepy horror tale set in the Old West. Their characters - both human and inhuman - leap off the page with the clarity of living, breathing people and their carefully chosen prose drives the story forward with a relentless pace that keeps you on the edge of your seat waiting for the final confrontation that looms in the distance. Hallowed Ground is a richly textured tale that will soon have fans clamoring for a sequel. Highly recommended.

I loved the writing in this book. It kept me constantly turning pages to see what was going to happen next. I will admit that it's a bit of a slow burn, but there's always something interesting going on, if not action packed. Highly recommended and I hope there's a sequel in the works.

This story began with a great atmosphere about the setting and the characters. It built up the suspense over the impending clash or battle between the two sides. Unfortunately, the payoff was disappointing. I saw no resolution that merited all the build up.

Just when I was about to give up on this book it got good. Great. Slow to start but when it finally got going I couldnt put it down!

Wonderfully written! Creepy, atmospheric, and compelling. Not a fluffy book you can tear through with half a brain. This is a dense, chewy story that needs--deserves--your full attention.

Really liked this book, reminded me a lot of the HBO show Carnivale. Very descriptive, good character development. Would like to read a sequel!

The West is the edge. Life in Rookwood means hanging onto the brink in this one horse town. Before the crows came, nothing happened here. But like a storm, change is coming, whether in the guise of the Deacon, the owl woman, the snake oil doctor or the wife reborn. There is a tale half completed, bargains unfulfilled and the time of reckoning has come. Hallowed Ground takes the backdrop of the Seven Faces of Dr. Lao (with out the excess of humor), the cautionary tale feel of a Gaiman story, as well as the reader, into its clutches and doesn't let go.
