About the Author

Dana Michelle Burnett was born and raised in beautiful Southern Indiana. Early on, she discovered the magic of book and stories. "I was always making stories up, even before I was old enough to write them down, and acting them out for anyone that would hold still."

She was in high school when she read the classic Lolita, which opened her up to the idea that the most fascinating characters are not pillars of society, but individuals full of flaws.

She earned a guest columnist spot with her local newspaper, The Tribune, which is published out of New Albany, Indiana in 1991 and 1992. She was published in the Above and Beyond section of Just Labs for a piece entitled You Get What You Give, which appeared in the 2003 September/October issue. Cats & Kittens published Louis: A Confused Feline in the July 2004 issue. Outsider Ink published Not That Bad in the Spring/Summer 2004 issue. She had a flash fiction piece entitled My Little Secret that was published in the 2005 issue of Mindprints: A Literary Journal. Foliate Oak Literary Magazine also published an excerpt of her fiction novel, Ghost Country, entitled John Lennon and the Chicken Holocaust in the February 2006 edition and it was included in their Best of Foliate Oak issue. Another excerpt of Ghost Country entitled Spring appeared in the winter 2007 issue of Mobius.

Ghost Country was Burnett's first fiction novel to be published. The novel features a glimpse into her own Cherokee ancestry mixed with fictional characters and compelling stories.

"The idea for the novel sprang from the Cherokee heritage of my own family, from one generation to the next; our tie to the Cherokee has become less evident." Burnett explained, "With the birth of my daughter, I began to research our Cherokee lineage so that perhaps my daughter's connection could be stronger than mine was. During my research, these characters came to mind. Ghost Country became the result."

Burnett still lives in Southern Indiana. Her site, DanaMichelleBurnett.com has more information about upcoming projects and appearances.
